Salma Hayek Marries Francois-Henri Pinault

PARIS — Salma Hayek picked a most romantic time and place to get married: Valentine's Day in Paris. The Mexican-born actress wed French magnate Francois-Henri Pinault in a civil ceremony Saturday at the City Hall in Paris' chic 6th arrondissement, according to an official there.

The wedding was a small affair, said the official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, in accordance with policy.

Hayek's spokeswoman, Cari Ross, confirmed in an e-mail Monday that the marriage had taken place in Paris Saturday. No further details were provided.

The nuptials followed a rocky romance. The two met in Italy in 2006, announced their engagement and had a baby, Valentina Paloma, in September 2007. Last year they broke off their engagement but made up a few months later.

Hayek, 42, was nominated for an Oscar in 2003 for the film "Frida," the biography of the painter Frida Kahlo, which she produced and starred in. She is one of the executive producers of the hit series "Ugly Betty" and is also the chief executive of Ventanazul, a production company she formed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.

Pinault, 46, is chief executive of the French luxury and retail group PPR SA, which owns high-end labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Puma.

Salma comes from a wealthy Mexican family and she's made her own money, so it's not like she was out trolling for a billionaire. Sure, I'm sure she loves the cachet and priviliges that come with being a billionaire's wife, but she wasn't hurting before she married him, so true gold-digger, trophy-wife status does not necessarily apply here.

Who said she was a gold-digger? Marrying a billionaire shouldn't automatically classify anyone as a gold digger. As you point out Hayek is a successful accomplished woman in her own right. The issue of money or who owns what should be irrelevant. Maybe its the billionaire who wants to cash in on the Hollywood glamor that Hayek brings to the table.

Its not the going for men with money that bothers me. In fact, I appreciate candid women who tell you all about the dollar signs in their eyes. Its these feminists and hand-wringers for the woes of the world who when it comes times to choose a mate choose the exact same kind that the lady hip hop rapper dreams of choosing. Actually, seriously, she's a successful actress--and producer--and has been since before she hit it big here in the states. She doesn't need to marry for money. Plus they have a kid. Good for them both.

This guy is young. They are close in age. And he is also good looking in his own way. And certainly lovable. And what a wonderful sugardaddy he would make if it true. He was married before. So why can't he be married again? She's got her own money. He's got way, way more. So what? And besides, she raised his profile (whether he likes that part or not).

If Salma is a good money manager, which I think she is, she will never need his money and could care for her child own her own, although I am sure he will pay for everything. What loving man would not? She can probably buy all of the prizes she wants with her own money. Donald Trump once mentioned something about the rich, he was talking about the wealthy buying yachts: When you have money at that level, its a matter of how big you want the yacht to be. (It is not about whether you can afford it or not). (not a direct quote) Salma can afford a yacht.
