Howard Fineman Defends His Hair: Blames His Convertible, Stimulus Package

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

From Politico:

Fineman told Shenanigans, "I'm letting my hair go gray -- duh -- but it grows slowly. I attribute [last week's] particularly disconcerting look on 'Hardball' to two factors: I drove around town with the top down on my old convertible, and I read the hair-raising details of the stimulus package. By the way, nothing I've ever said, reported or written over the years has generated as much comment as the Hair Transition, which says a lot about the power of television and, I guess, the importance of what I have said, reported and written."

Howard, it's always darkest before the dawn. In other words, keep the gray growing, the end result will be worth it. Think: Richard Gere.

Howard - either cut off the brown/red or dye it gray!

Well if ya gotta convertible I'd suggest a buzz cut. Hey HF just be lucky you got your own hair.
If it starts thinning, don't get a hairpiece, folks will KNOW it's hairpiece (no matter what the dealer tells you). And you're of that income level where you can get a decently good hair transplant if you wanted to (none of the per plug/dolls hair look)

I'm glad to see Howard letting his hair go natural. I could always tell when he had just had it dyed, and I thought, "Oh Howarrrrrrd, you are SO much smarter than that." I think he looks a lot more distinguisned now.

After eight years of Bush, Howard's finally letting his hair down.

I have never understood why men would ever dye their hair. Unless you are really young, most women don't have looks number one on their wish lists. Oh sure, we'd all love to be married to someone who looks like Robert Redford or George Clooney or one of the young hotties. But mostly, we just want to be married to someone who's faithful, loves the kids, and tries to bring home a paycheck on a regular basis.

As to TV talking heads - dye jobs on men, even if they are great dye jobs, are stupid. Women almost have to dye their hair; why would men want to? I don't care what color Howard's hair is, just so long as his brain still works (and it seems to). Hair dye commericals for men are about single older men trying to hook up with women who are much younger than they are. This has nothing to do with being someone older (like over 40) who simply has a job to do. I only wish that we had more older, grey women on tv - especially talking heads. Cable news is filled with older men and women doing Rapunsel imitations. Only Couric looks like a typical 40 year old (yes, women in their 40's and 50's actually look fine these days).

I, for one, was thankful when fineman started growing his natural gray hair out. Before it was constantly morphing, from dark, freshly dyed brown, to a brassy auburn with grey roots and every combination inbetween. It was horrible. I think Fineman made the right decision---although there is no reason not to cut the rest off now.

Old people look better with gray hair. Dye jobs on old people just look bad.

Poor Howard, he's been having a such a hard time with this hair transition.

My daughter actually thought that he had a gash on his forehead and I had to convince her that the producers wouldn't let him just sit there bleeding...

he should cut it short if he wants to grow the color out, or have it colored to more closely match his natural color as it grows out. Either one would be a great improvement.

I can understand with the high price of salons about letting your hair go gray, but when he's in the public eye, he could have a colorist help him look good during that process.

love this guy, but the hair has been bothering me for awhile. he needs some "hair formula for men," it looks tacky onscreen. even rachel maddow put on a jacket, contact lenses and some stage makeup to do television. this guy needs to step up and fix the hair. go natural on your own time. it is constantly distracting me when he's onscreen, not just on windblown days.

There are rinses and other means to make the hair look better as it goes through the transition. Some people grey gracefully while others go through a series of weird colorations.

Nothing wrong with letting it go natural. Maybe Chris Matthews should take heed. He's had days where he's been half blond and half gray.

Is Chris blond or gray? This is another question that dogs my household.
