Whoopi Knocks O'Reilly Over Helen Thomas Comment: "If You're Gonna Do Humor, Learn How To Do It" (VIDEO)

During an appearance on Bill O'Reilly's show Tuesday night, Whoopi Goldberg criticized the Fox News host for calling longtime White House reporter Helen Thomas "the wicked witch of the East" last week. O'Reilly, who previously spent a good amount of time on air defending his remarks as well as his impression of Thomas, asked the "View" co-host "do you have a beef with me of some kind about Helen Thomas?" Goldberg responded by saying she found the remark out of character for O'Reilly and that while he insisted it was just a joke, it would have helped if he actually knew how to be funny.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Mr. O'Reilly, but that was pretty funny. Bill's ego is always entertaining to watch, especially when it just continues to tear his reputation down.

I don't think that it's funny what O'Reilly did making fun of Thomas. Having said that I do think Thomas should retire. I know she is respected etc.... But c'mon how old is she? That nuclear question was silly to think Obama was gonna answer Israel and open a huge can of worms.

Excuse me? Helen Thomas is one of the few real journalists living today. She is certainly the only one with any balls. I hope that she works up until the bitter end.

She is one of the last true journalists. It used to be a respectable, if not revered profession. Now, if/when they ask the tough questions, everyone says, "C'mon, he's not gonna answer THAT", but if/when they DON'T ask the tough questions, we accuse the media of giving "them" a free pass. We are a fickle bunch who never seem to be satisfied.
I, for one, really respect Helen Thomas. Sure, she probably could have retired a long time ago, but has stayed on because she is obviously passionate about her job(another thing lacking in the media today) and wants to continue to be a part of the political process.
Just my opinion...... it was kinda funny, though!

I have seen her on the View and she puts her foot in her mouth many times.

Along with the food part of the program when she is stuffing food in her mouth when she apparently doesn't think the camera is on her.

I frankly wonder why she is as popular as she thinks she is.

needs to.

To all those that love the "think skin" defense:

The point is made because O'Reilly is supposedly a journalist. If he would publicly claim his obvious hackery then I don't think you could say it's any more then his opinion when he opens his mouth and turds plop out. This isn't about what he said, it's that he says things like this over and over again. Obviously Helen Thomas is an old lady, and you could make the witch comment about ANY old lady. Which of course brings us back to the point that O'Reilly (and conservatives in general) don't understand the complexity of comedy. I suppose that's why they only create tragedy.

I like Helen Thomas. I had a chance to meet her in Journalism school (way back when); and was very impressed with her candor and intelligence. She knows how to cover American politics, and is a great role model for serious journalists. Her standards have always been very high, and she represented UPI well!

We have freedom of speech in this country and conservatives take that to mean they have a green light to be obnoxious, oppressive, vitriol, mean-spirited and cruel.
