SOUTH BARRINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- A pastor of a Chicago-area megachurch has left his post after what church officials call "sexual impurity."

A statement from Willow Creek Community Church says the Rev. Steve Wu has resigned as pastor of the Chicago campus of the church and has "taken full responsibility for his sin."

Officials with the South Barrington-based church didn't offer further details. They didn't immediately return messages left after business hours Tuesday.

The 43-year-old Wu started at the church in 2006. Members of the Chicago congregation were told of his resignation last month.

Church spokesman Ted Allen Miller says the church's desire is to "reconcile and restore" but wouldn't give further details.

Willow Creek has about 20,000 members between at least five locations in the Chicago area.
