Snowstorm prevented my dish from receiving signal. Anybody know if one can view the entire Oscars and if so, where?

The Oscar ceremonies were a little better this year. I really enjoyed Hugh Jackman. I thought the presentation of the awards by addressing each nominee individually was a little weird and awkward.

Some may want to skip this site at this time. It has been labeled as an attack site. Whether as an unwitting passive site being used by another, is not yet known. I've got no axe to grind, don't know anything about the site. Some sites labeled as attack sites are being used by third parties without them even knowing. I was warned and now so are you...

MUCH MUCH MUCH too long. Too many commercials, unnecessary dance number and interminable WHO cares moments. Other than that...I thought generally Iwho won deserved it. I am SORRY that Viola Davis who gave a BRILLIANT performance as supporting in Doubt ... brilliant maybe the best i have seen, that she did not win. I hope her career sails long into the future. She is nothing short of excellent.

Seymour Hoffman is just an incredible actor and I loath giving awards simply posthumously event though Ledger was a wonderful actor. The only thing, THAT HAT, if he had won would he have worn it on stage..we'll never know but Seymour, if you read these ditch the hat! Maybe it was on for some medical reason but if not then it was NOT complimentary. Nevertheless, he is a brilliant actor and I will see ANYTHING with him in it. Sorry he didn't win for Doubt or even DiCaprio for Revolutionary Road. I loved that film and maybe thought it was shortchanged. Just my opinion. Truthfully, I could not shine any of the nominees and even some other ones who were not nominated, shoes.

I envy their talent!

I wasn't shut down by Sean Penn. I LOVED him. I love him in ANYTHING he does. Whether he directs or acts himself he is brilliant. Glad "Christians" or at least right wing extremist Christians are shut out. They should be. Art is about presenting life as it is in a critical way. It is usually NOT about reinforcing the status quo and it is CERTAINLY not about promoting a particular religion. Man made fundamentalist religion serves to promote the WORST most prejudiced, excluding and hateful aspect of the human condition. If film shows that aspect it is for one thing to remain skeptical and critical.

In this ONE venue consistently a more tolerance promoting attitude exists. The minute it does not -- fate forbid, that is the day I cease to go to movies or watch the awards. It will not because from the very beginning film with the exception of the spectacles and feel good films, the good films offer a mirror to our shortcomings and criticism to a narrow mean world.

Bill Maher is a bully, and Sean Penn talked down to the people he was trying to persuade.

I expect people will jump on my comment and say something hurtful like, "Christians deserve it. They're evil/stupid/bigoted/whatever and they should feel my pain" but saying that the audience needs to get over its "silly gods" and trying to scold people who disagree with you with a personal attack instead of just laying out the case for your cause shows a fundamental lack of respect for the audience viewing at home.

In the end, everybody feels hurt. The intended audience for the remarks is offended by whatever message was supposed to be sent because of the way it was stated, and dialogue shuts down.

I stopped listening to Sean Penn long ago because while his message may be valid, his delivery is condescending. The key to making a message work is not making people feel that they are completely wrong. Both can be right, you know.

That's how I felt about the speech given by the screenwriter for Milk. He had a lot to say and he was totally appropriate, but then Sean Penn goes up there and ruins the moment with his arrogance.

Beyonce Knowles lip-syncing was pretty lame, given the others appeared to be singing live (Jackman certainly was).

Who cares... There are more important things in this country than Hollywood.

Watching. The music underlying the talk is extremely annoying, however I did like the new way of honoring the nominees for actors.
