Newsweek:

Has America's even- tempered new president already ruffled feathers in the land that spawned Borat and Benny Hill? That's certainly how the spiky British press responded after the White House sent back to the British Embassy a bust of Sir Winston Churchill that had occupied a cherished spot in President Bush's Oval Office. Intended as a symbol of transatlantic solidarity, the bust was a loaner from former British prime minister Tony Blair following the September 11 attacks. A bust of Abraham Lincoln--Obama's historical hero--now sits in its place. A White House spokesperson says the Churchill bust was removed before Obama's inauguration as part of the usual changeover operations, adding that every president puts his own stamp on the Oval Office.

Not true. Americans still have a lot to be angry at Britain for--supporting a failed war, e.g.

Why not place Chruchill in another part of the White House? It is an insult to send it back.

Obama's no Lincoln. It's arrogant for Obama to pretend he is the same. He voted for taking our rights away...and Lincoln did not. Obama supports Faith Based "cronyism" which Lincoln thougt was against the Constitution. No tax payer dollars for those evengelicals who pestered him. He wanted to keep the union together while Obama dreams of globalism and open borders. Lincoln had no plans for Empire.

Lincoln would turn over in his grave thinking another Illinois President does not back our Constitution. Instead is a globalist which is undemocratic.

Lincoln did not support those secret, behind closed door groups. Obama and his wife belong...violating the Logan Act.

Lincoln wanted to end the Federal Reserve "private bank". Instead Obama bails out those corrupt world bankers with our tax dollars.

Lincoln supported the Transcontinental Railway..not the Canadian National Railway (corporate profit for the few) from Canada to Mexico running through the center of the country. The infrastructure paid for by our tax dollars past, present, and future.

Lincoln so over shadowed Washington that we don't even see George our first President celebrated. Guess Lincoln is the only one we can celebrate under the (Republican) globalist agenda. Lincoln would hate that.

"The Federal Reserve System (also the Federal Reserve; informally The Fed) is the central banking system of the United States. Created in 1913 by the enactment of the Federal Reserve Act, it is a quasi-public (government entity with private components) banking system [1] that comprises (1) the presidentially appointed Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C.; (2) the Federal Open Market Committee; (3) twelve regional Federal Reserve Banks located in major cities throughout the nation acting as fiscal ..."

They received massive amounts of land grants to build it. It was federally assisted, funds obtained from government bonds.

I guess they couldn't put it in storage until the Brits came calling for its return, but sending it home makes more sense. Newspapers, they always try to sensatonalized everything to create a story.

Churchill, whose mother was American, had three ancestors who sailed on the Mayflower.
maybe Bush thought some "Real" americanitis would rub off on him if he kept Churchill around. Or maybe he just wanted a reminder of the war that made his grandfather a fortune.

Um how did Obama even have time to think of sending that back with all the problems we have..what no storage area in the whitehouse? He had to realize that would ruffle feathers..but again we have bigger problems.

What do you mean, how did Obama have time to THINK about sending it back? Are you suggesting that in the privacy of the White House, which he and his family now call their home, he shouldn't take the time to think about the things surrounding him and his family that will reflect their taste and their spirit? That to take the time to think about these things is somehow negligible on his part because he's the President?

I guess 8 years of Bush must have driven you crazy! It's pretty obvious that Bush spent more time thinking about things around the house than he did about the country, which is why we now have "bigger problems."

Oh well, just accept it. Obama has made his first faux pas. At least it isn't a big deal, other than destroying his god-like image some people have held of him and revealing him as just another human being.

The bust was on loan to Bush. It would have been discourteous not to return it.

How is returning something loaned to the former President to its rightful owner a faux pas? Seems like a good thing to me.

The British Press are making a mountain over a molehill, and really, do they expect Obama to shunt the bust of Lincoln aside to keep Churchill, especially this year - the bicentenary of Lincoln's birth?

It is NOT silly to be obsessed with Lincoln. Who would you prefer as his inspiration? Lincoln is considered our best President by historians. Should he try to model himself after someone less good? Give him credit for having good taste and good sense.

Apparently the hea.dline writer is illiterate: The article didn't say the bust was going back to England. It said it went back to the British Embassy (presumably somewhere in D.C.).

How about learning to read?
