Re comments that the children were paid next to nothing:

Boyle and producer Colson said the children were paid 3 times the annual average that adult actors get for a year except that they got it for 30-days work.

Trust funds have been set up for the 2 younger children who are from the slums, and that's for education, basic living, health care, and emergencies. Boyle sent money when one of the families was evicted from their shanty as it was torn down and they were living under tarp. The money was to provide a home but they they don't know where the money went.

The trust funds are to give them enough for college after they complete school at 18. In the meantime they've agreed to buy apartments for the two families but the properties won't be transferred until the kids are 18 . They're not giving trust fund accts to the parents to control because they can't know if these will be kept for the children.

The young boy who played earliest Salim and the the girl who played earliest Latika are from the slums. (The others are from middle-class or well-to-do areas.) His parents at first nixed the trip to Hollywood, saying they needed money much more. There are many articles about this, and the producer and director didn't want to make the details public because the children could be vulnerable to predators. Google "slumdog trust fund" to find the articles.

Honestly, how many black, strapless gowns does Angelina own?? Everything about her is just OLD...another version of the same old black, strapless gown, same old hairstyle, same old harsh eye make-up/colorless lips. Even her expression is the same..."cold b*tch/queen of the dead/I smell something foul". Kudos for recycling the emeralds, though, in these financially trying times!

Apparently, the clothing designers are having the same trouble with finding new ideas as the Hollywood movie-makers.

First of all; I'll say it again...

Ms. Hathaway please stop wearing white that has more color than you do. BTW, take Amy Adams with you to the beach. Chalky Skin isn't cute.

Next, Who dresses Miley Cyrus? This is the 100th award show in which she was dressed horribly. either she's dressed like a 50 year old or Bjork (swan dress).

Robin W. Penn and Sarah J Parker need to hang out together. Because with RWP you couldn't tell where the front of the gown was, and SJP's was too bus(t)y screaming for attention.

Is it just me but did Kate Winslet have on the most boring dress, it was (sorta) pretty, but it was way too safe.

Its kinda cool to see that even into her second century of life Sophia Loren still breaks out the girls for special occasions (NOT). Someone please stop her. She needs to get over herself. I'm just sayin'.

WTF, happened to Phoebe Cates? She hasn't aged well. Nuff said.

Penelope Cruz in the HDTV dress. If you were not watching on HDTV the dress looked like flat, but in HDTV... That is a DAMN PRETTY DRESS and she looked like she was missing a tiara.

Marisa Tomei looked gorgeous. The Hair, the Makeup, the Bling, and that DRESS.

I've never seen her in person, but I think I have fingers bigger than Freida Pinto. Thats no meant as an insult, but an observation. Very pretty woman with a great smile.

Where on earth do these people get the HUGE teeth?

Superman better stay away from Angelina. I'd swear that stuff she was wearing is Kryptonite.

Sofia is Hot and gets HOTTER! Go Go!

Not sure about the pasty white. I now I don't like the patent leather spray tans but stunning white is not pretty either.

Nice of them to tone down on their diamonds a little this year. They must be showing solidarity with the rest of the country.

Is it just me or has Robert Downey, Jr. had any work done on his face? He has such perfectly fine features it's amazing. Is his look natural or enhanced??

He looked like he had a spray tan or something, kind of orange-ish. Probably botox too.

I said the same thing after I saw him on the red carpet! He's the epitome of that line about great plastic surgery: You should look really well-rested.

Whatever it is, he looks great.

Angelina Jolie could wear a dirty garbage bag to the Oscars and everyone would think she looked good. I'm not one of those people; I will say that her dress was too plain.

I am always so amused at Americans who assume that of course everyone wants to come here to live. Hs it not yet occurred to you that many, many people would love to come to America to visit or to get work, but they don't really want to live here? I would be willing to bet that these children's parents know they cannot find work here. After all, the factory and customer service work has all been shipped over there!

I think Natalie Portman had the prettiest dress. Great color, and her hair and makeup were flawless. I also likes Angelina's green jewelry. and BTW peppermint, Sean Penn didn't ruin the whole evening. He was great. You should go see Milk..It will make you a better person..
