Charlotte Observer:

The Charlotte-based Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is laying off 55 employees - about 10 percent of its staff.

"With the economy the way it is, we need to make sure we're tightening our belts as much as we can," Ken Barun, the ministry's senior vice president for communications.

Guess God didn't hear those prayers from Gov. Sanford.

So, Jesus Christ, Inc. (TM) has fallen on hard times? Some of these preachers might need to get a real job - maybe shucking the "Shamwow!" on late night TV.

So far, I haven't seen any church paster's kids who are not well provided for, going to the best school, taking piano lesson, etc.., well dressed, living in the lap of lurxury, as from a well off family. That's from God or from the lithe ?

I hear Billy's going back on the road with a three-poled revival tent. He's having to scrape the cash together to buy a couple of tigers but he's hired those guys out in Hollywood to help out - Sigfried and Roy. He's got plenty of unemployed elephants already line up just driving through D.C. and he's gone to Chicago to hire the clown they just sent to the Senate. Just a few more altar calls and he'll be back in bid'ness.

Uh, am I missing something? They say laying off 55 people will save them $85 million. These people must be very well paid. That comes to over $1.5 million per!

I guess we don't need to worry about them not having money to pay the rent, huh?

I wish I could get layed off from a job like that.

But you don't understand. 10% tithe from every paycheck had to go into Billy's collection plate. When the employees complained back in 1955 that they should be more generous to "the church," Billy up the tithe to 20%; hence, the higher level of right-off....er, ummmm.... Pay.

A dithe. I like that, maybe it'll catch on in these tough times. After all, the fleecing of the flock must go on:just because the economy's in the john doesn't mean the finance company's going to write off the payments on the Gulfstream and the Alpinas.

Laid off workers get "one month's notice, a severance package, outplacement and spiritual counseling.

So for the repubs it's NO NEED FOR A STIMULUS PACKAGE BECAUSE GOD WILL PROVIDE.

And while those people are out of work, Franklin Graham is living high off the hog ......... multiple MANSIONS in multiple states (including Alaska), several private jets, and a 6 figure salary ............. All paid for by tithes, offerings and donations .............. GO FIGURE

Geebus, you mean the crappy economy is even affecting God, Inc.? As a big business (selling God and redemption) wouldn't Billy's folks qualify for a government bail out?

It's all on account of Billy not being able to convert the Juice. No really.

Interesting paradox isn't it? I wonder if there is anything the ministry could have done without before laying off 55 people?

They could have PRAYED, per Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina.

Yea, right. I want to see Billy move into a double-wide and trade that Limo in on a VW Van. The least he could do is move into a tent like St. Paul.

In the name of Christianity, shouldn't they have all taken a 10% cut in order to keep the staff employed? WWJD?

"Jay" would never have gotten into the bid'ness to start with. He'd already have given it to the poor.

BTW, what's so specially about Billy? All he ever did was pray with Nixon for forgiveness for shooting Kennedy.

Don't worry Billy, Gov. Sanford will pray for your laid-off workers, and all will be well.

Wow. Pretty harsh words for a guy who has preached love and forgiveness his whole life. What have you done to make your existence on this planet worth the oxygen you waste?

Well, for starters, I didn't go to revivals. Some of us must work for a living. Didn't Billy get a start when a past publisher of the LA TIMES said, "Puff, Billy Graham.". What have you done, winstonian24? There are pray in public by make a living by preying constantly. That isn't you; is it?
