I Like ItI Don’t Like It

In an interview with the Washington Times, the Republican governor of Utah on Monday said his party's leaders in Congress' lack of new ideas renders them so "inconsequential" that he doesn't even bother to talk to them.

Watch:

"I don't even know the congressional leadership," Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. told the paper's editors and reporters. "I have not met them. I don't listen or read whatever it is they say because it is inconsequential -- completely." Huntsman added that he would not reject any money from President Obama's stimulus. While he criticized what he saw as misdirected spending in bill, he said Republicans had no credibility on fiscal responsibility.

"Our moral soapbox was completely taken away from us because of our behavior in the last few years," he said. "For us to now criticize analogous behavior is hypocrisy. We've got to come at it a different way. We've got to prove the point. It can't be as the Chinese would say, 'fei hua,' [or] empty words."

Huntsman recently made waves when a spokeman announced that the governor supported civil unions for gay couples. Utah has a constitutional ban on gay marriage and domestic unions.

In an interview with the Washington Times, the Republican governor of Utah on Monday said his party's leaders in Congress' lack of new ideas renders them so "inconsequential" that he doesn't even both...

Today Senate Republicans were concerned that the nominee for Sec of Labor was pro-labor. They were not concerned that the Sec of Commerce was pro-commerce.

Sadly he probably wouldn't win a primary, excellent candidate if he did but not much chance of it.

I have lived in Utah for 3 years. While many of the politicians here are....errr....self rightous idiots *(See below). So far, I like Gov. Huntsman. He seems like a reasonable man and a breath of fresh air to politics in Utah.

*Sen. Buttars (R)recently was quoted as saying that the gay liberal agenda is the greatest threat to America....more than terrorists. Last year, he said (regarding a bill before them) that it was an ugly baby....a black, ugly baby. This man was re-elected!!! It's shameful. As for the gay slam...he says he will not apologize and he sees no reason to apologize.

Do the words "greater good" exist within republican dialogue? Nope! How can it exists in a group of self-serving, slap your buddy on the back, wink wink politicians whose only agenda is taking care of #1-themselves, and those who help get to that place....

Unfortunately the party of the past century has never realized this is the 21st century. The republicans are regressive in thought and action and show no sign of change.

Throughout our history our government has morphed from big to small and back on the basis of need and the demands of the times. The problem with the republicans one note song that the only good government is small government is that it is the tree that will not bend in a storm. So it snaps.

Fiscal responsibility is not the same thing as small government and is something both parties should aspire to. But it will be a long time before Americans are ready to see a government so small it fits in the pocket of a banker.

In the end it's not about big or small, it's about what works. It's about GOOD government.

Exactly Stella everything is changing and you have to be flexible. Think out of the box and have ideas. The same thing that worked 10 or 20 years ago is not going to work today.

Yea, eight years showed the world that "small" government and fiscal responsibility are not necessarily one in the same. Bush expands the size of government and this was hardly consistent with fiscal responsibility. Isn't that a very large part of how we have ended up where we are today? So what I am waiting to see is how many sorry republicans who gave Bush a free pass on expansion of government and damning fiscal policy. Would the ones who voted in favor of Bush also be the same loud mouth clowns screaming at and voting against Obama. You Betcha!!!!

how refreshing ..although it's a sad commentary on the representative system when the governor of a state has nothing good to say of that states representatives in Washington. I wonder if there are other governors that feel the same way if so someone may want to rethink Congress in general.
Gov.Huntsman just hit Steele's defecation roster !
