I Like ItI Don’t Like It

In the CBS introductory coverage of President Obama's first address to Congress, Katie Couric poked fun at Vice President and white male Joe Biden. "Nice to see a little diversity, with an African-American President, a female Speaker of the House, and there's the white guy," she said. Watch:

Evidently Katie has risen to her level of incompetence. While she was successful with cute, whimsical remarks on the morning show she has had some difficulty on the evening news.

Honestly, I don't know why she was pointing out racial and gender differences that are already obvious to everyone. Come on Katie, we know the Speaker of the House is a woman. I would go so far as to correct her in that President Obama is as much caucasian as he is african american.

John Roberts, CJ of the SCOTUS, once said: The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.

The media has to learn again to respect people in office - if they wish them to be respectable, that is. Maybe they prefer the entertainment-factor of politicians, though. Then they should go on talking about their clothes, encourage them to talk in sloppy jargon, make them joke about themselves etc.
If that.s what the public wants. It doesn.t seem so much different from the childish Bush-years, after all.

I thought we where supposed to stop using color as a descriptor and use the persons professional status. Guess Katy missed the memo.

If racism is a thing of the past, then the only statement from Katie C. should have been the Speaker of the House and the VP wait the arrival of the President. The media has a way of bringing racism into ALL mainstream news reporting. If Katie had said, here comes the Black Guy she would not have a job today. Someone would have call her a racist and demanded she resign.

I get what your saying...but again racism is perpetuated by the people who want to perpetuate it. It's their job to keep the hate going. Otherwise, they become insignificant and meaningless.

Katie's comment was pretty harmless. She is simply embracing her inner charm. I love her.

Yeah, white men are demonized now (unless they suck up to minorities), but nobody cares about Biden anyway. Obama always looks nervous whenever he speaks, as if he's afraid he'll make a gaffe (which he usually does).

There isn't a white male in mainstream TV that has a set of gonads left.

Thats why white males haven't watched the MSM in 20 years.

I have to laugh at you. You poor deluded little thing. Go find comfort under your sheet. You're a hater and we expect that from you and people like you. We have an intelligent, coherent President that cares about this country and its citizens. Oh yeah,...........HE'S AFRICAN AMERICAN!!!!!! LOL!!

To JeanMerilynSimmons:

Most people are nervous about speaking.

All of the presidents in the past were probably nervous each time they got up.

White males are not the minorities. They are now on a level playing field with other minorities.

Tell us how are you when you get up to speak. I know that I am always nervous, but get through it.

I guess now that Katie's ratings have gotten better, she has gotten very comfortable and feels that she can say whatever is on her mind! She might want to watch that tongue of hers in future telecast because something not so "diverse" may come rolling out!

Us "white guys" have a sense of humor about ourselves. We get it. The rest of the country should understand that racism is so over. Racism is perpetuated by the people who thrive on perpetuating it. Racism is an easy way to justify all the evils of society. Couric's comment didn't even remotely sound racist to me...and I'm an old white guy...and I don't even like Couric!

Jeez.

"Racism is perpetuated by the people who thrive on perpetuating it."

Wrong.

Racism is perpetuated by those who enable it by ignoring and deny it.

My husband gets annoyed with the fact that most journalists make comments about Obama being the first african american president too. I just tell him that this is something that is very new to our country, and that we will be hearing this for a long time to come but eventually it will fade away as an issue. I agree with Holder, our country is new to racial diversity at high levels in government and we still have a lot of growing to do in that area. It doesn't bother me to hear it every day and I don't think there is anything wrong with talking about it. It's a big deal! We have the first african american president and I'm just sooooo grateful to Obama for doing this hard job for us!

If Eminem was black he would be an underground rapper in Detroit
If Larry Bird was black he would be playing street ball
If Babe Ruth was black he would be Josh Gibson..who is he???

Having a black President is a big thing for America.
