John Mayer: Jennifer Aniston Had My Back at Oscars

It turns out that while the singer was happy to provide "moral support" to his girl at the Academy Awards, he was also "very, very nervous" about attending.

"It's not my world, the Oscar thing," Mayer told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM show Wednesday. "But [Jen] was so sweet to me that night, because you can go from a Grammy winner to a water boy when you walk into the Kodak Theatre on Oscar night." He added,"While it was really, really fun, the whole thing is very odd to me."

"I basically stepped into the picture frame of Hollywood," he explained. "And you have to really be with someone you know has your back in that situation, and she did, and it was really great."

I became an admirer of Jennifer when she went through all that public humiliation re the divorce and conducted herself so well. She has many friends who love and support her, including Oprah Winfrey.

I like the show Friends, but you don't have to watch Friends to figure out Maniston's character.

I never watched Friends. Frankly, I'm not into any of the movies these 4 make. However, if one never actually saw a person act, how do you know anything about thier ability. My post was not directed to you, so why you feel the necessity to respond is beyond me. I did see most of "Friends with Money"-try watching it. Her performance is very good, nothing like the character people seem to corner her in. She also recieved good reviews for "The Good Girl", altough I never saw that one. And, is it necessary to refer to her as "Maniston". It makes seem you sound very cruel and adolescent.

We don't have royalty in this country. That's why fought a little war called the Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, many people do actually treat ALL of Hollywierd like they are the American royalty. Celebrity worhsip-no mater who it is-is getting out of hand. THEY ALL get free gifts, gowns, jewelry, etc. when they attend these events. They make huge amounts of money for acting in movies-which is pwaned off the movie goer. AJ can $15 mill a picture (and it's not all goiong to charity)-is anyone worth that kind of money? Don't single out JA for this, she isn't the only one.

Oprah Winfrey has been promoting Aniston's relationships or lack thereof for four years and it is sickening. I remember years ago, Oprah castigated a woman whose husband of twenty years left her and their five children for her best friend. Oprah was all over the woman saying that men don't leave if they're happy and that there must have been a disconnect in the marriage in order for him to leave her. She had no compassion and no kind words and invited the husband and his new wife on the same show. Yet, as soon as Aniston, childless, rich, and famous is divorced, now it's time to throw a yearly party celebrating her bravery for surviving divorce. When I think of the number of women and children who are left destitute after a divorce it is somewhat sickening to hear people act like Aniston is a superwoman.

While I don't know anything about Oprah's take on Jennifer or other women who have been hurt by cheating spouses, it seems to me that people are drawn to Aniston precisely because she is NOT a superwoman. She has handled all ot this drama with such dignity and humanity, surrounding herself with her beloved friends and family while continuing to grow professionally. She also seems unafraid to try to find love again. We're all simply rooting for her.

Angie laughed her and why not? She was nervous, she messed up a line, and looked out of place. Angie was nominated for an Oscar and Jen was just there looking kind of tragic and nervous.

I agree with you in the respect that Aniston generates a huge outpouring of empathy among so many people, while she is photographed on her constant vacations having idle fun. I just don't identify with her. She has a great life and can have anything she wants, and does have it. All the sympathy for her doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Yes, but is it her fault that people empathize with her? I would say its the press that keeps the nonsense going-it sells their publications. I don't have sympahty for her-that would be ridiculous. What I see is a beautiful woman in the prime of her life enjoying herself. She had a painful breakup of her marriage, but I don't see any indication that she is unhappy or not over her marriage. Was it awkward for her? I'm sure it was, and I think she handled herself as well as anyone could. My parents were divorced for 21 years-and still after all that time, if they ever had to be in the same room, they were uncomfortable and you could feel the tension. The amount of time that passes sometimes makes no difference, but it does'nt mean the people are "not over" each other. As far as identifying with her...can you really identify with any of these people?? They are rich, have the world at thier disposal, they want for nothing and get away with things that most of us would be fired from our jobs for (this is not singling out Aniston, but all of Hollweird, as I like to call it). And do you think JA is the only one that spent enormous amountof money on her hair & make-up? Please, let's get real...eve­ryone on that red carpet had their hair & make-up professionally done and spent a fortune.
