Being a mascot for Chick-fil-A is a form of employment not without risks, according to the Fredericksburg, VA police blotter. A man working as the Chick-fil-A 'cow' at a local outpost of the restaurant chain was attacked during his shift, making him the victim of, as the report put it, "a bovine beat-down."

The victim, dressed as a cow, was standing outside the restaurant when he was approached by a man who yelled at him and pushed him to the ground, according to a release by Fredericksburg Police Department spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe.

She said when another man intervened, the assailant ran away.

The victim could not give a description of the attacker, Bledsoe said.

WATCH a news report on the attack

One would like to assume this was a one-time targeting of the company's mascot, but alas, it seems violence has, nearly, struck before:

Here's a story story from KCRA in Sacramento from last March:

It takes udder courage to stand along a street in Elk Grove wearing a Chick-Fil-A cow costume.

But it's also a little dangerous, as 19-year-old Melissa Forsberg recently found out.

Forsberg was working as the restaurant's mascot and trying to catch the attention of passing motorists, but she ended up nearly being attacked by a passer-by.

Now, she finds herself without a job. Forsberg said she is upset with the fast-food giant for firing her after just three weeks on the job.[...]

Forsberg said she wants to see future mascots protected by security.

Look for a video of the "attack" on youtube soon.

Staged. They just weren't expecting the local news to get involved.

Didn't get a good look at him, my eye! That cow knew exactly who attacked him and why.

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie that follows. Seth Rogan is in the costume and there's a huge and funny story of why his best friend beat him up and was so upset, he couldn't wait till Seth got off work to do it.

May not star Seth Rogan, but 15 to 16 hour work weeks seems like a job a Seth Rogan character would have.

My grandson was three and a half and terrified of mascots in uniforms such as the Chick Cow. We did not realize that it was kiddie night, and when the cow emerged from behind us and walked up to my grandson, he socked him hard and screamed bloody murder. We had to grab him up and take him from the restaurant as the child was hysterical, shaking like a leaf, and had turned ghastly white.

I went back in and apologized profusely, but they said not to worry, it happened all the time.

I think there's confusion because there is a Fredericksburg, Virginia and a Frederick, Maryland. But I still feel slightly cheated as I clicked on the link only because I thought it was in Maryland.
