Jodie Foster Busted Speeding, Isn't Happy

A crew from truTV's reality show "Speeders" - which rides with highway patrols to film motorists getting caught speeding and then trying to talk their way out of a ticket - was with the Beverly Hills cops last weekend when they clocked a Prius allegedly going 54 mph in a 35 mph zone.

When an officer and the camera crew approached the car, they found Foster - winner of Best Actress Oscars for "The Silence of the Lambs" and "The Accused" - sitting behind the wheel.

Our source relates that, "Foster refused to sign a waiver to appear on the show, so the camera crew ceased filming and returned to the police car. But she grew quite agitated and angry, and kept insisting to the police officers that the radar gun must have made a mistake."

The Prius and other hybrids need a sound generator that is increased with speed to replace the engine roar when speeding it is a safety essential...these cars may do 90 or over but they are not really made to handle at that speed it is a clear safety issue...

We'll need to come up with something for the coming electric cars as well or with windows closed it is too easy to be unaware of the speed you're traveling when in full electric mode...in these hybrids..

Somebody ought to invent a device that measures the instantaneous speed of a land vehicle and universally fit it to all motor vehicles. I would call it a speedometer.

Toyota couldn't get a better advert for its Prius. This incident insinuates it's fast, it's clean, and it is the car of choice by the rare cerebral celebrity.

I think Jodie has a good defense....a Prius won't go 54! On a serious note, the reality thing has to stop. Viewers need to stop watching ripoff tv where producers get away without paying actors and writer and crews. One of the few things that America still exports is our entertainment. If we let it go down the drain what do we have left?

Why fight the ticket? You know, being a celebrity, this will make the news. Especially after you know that there was a film crew right there. Everyone speeds now and then (whether they get caught or not), so noone will hold it against you. Because you made a scene, the news made it to the NY Post.

In other news......Anthony Hopkins gets jaywalking ticket.......this is a news item? ANd Lindsay Lohan makes out with some chick and this is a news item? I'm not against reporting celberty news but this is fluff by any definition of the word. OK, if Angelina and Brad adopt another kid, or if Bruce Willis is being sued for 4 million for breach of contract......but a necking session and a speeding ticket are lame news items.

My family has a Prius- can verify that the real average gas mileage is ~ 35-40 mph in winter, ~45-55 mph in summer.
However, the thing has the muscle of a hummingbird feather should you confront ANY sort of a grade on ice/snow; you literally have to get out and push (and we're talking FLAT east-central Illinois, not Connecticut! lol)
We have an ancient Subaru AWD that goes out and about for duty under those more robust conditions.

I will be happy to adopt any technology that is emblematic of a lifestyle that will allow our children to breath decent air and have plentiful food and water. Ask anyone with an advanced science degree. It's that serious.

Mr. Science was handing out 'Master Degrees in Science' for a while, so don't overvalue 'advanced science degree' argument- the rest of us don't, & we're already members of the club. ;o)
Who you are, not what you DID, is what's important.
Degrees are something you leave BEHIND, IN THE PAST, as a record of PAST accomplishment.

Not a big fan myself, but that's no excuse for cultural illiteracy.
Smacks of those folks who REFUSE to visit a Wal-Mart on principle (as if they'll be FORCED to spend $ there).
ALL Prius owners should watch it - a fun, smart commentary that doesn't need a diploma's imprimatur to give it legitimacy.
