David Frum: Limbaugh Is "A Walking Stereotype Of Self-Indulgence"

Limbaugh

The New Majority:

President Obama and Rush Limbaugh do not agree on much, but they share at least one thing: Both wish to see Rush anointed as the leader of the Republican party. Here's Rahm Emanuel on Face the Nation yesterday: "the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican party."

What a great endorsement for Rush! (And we know Rush is fond of compliments - listen to his loving account in his CPAC speech of the birthday lunch given him by President Bush just before Inauguration Day.)

Frum is betting that the "ignorant and proud" wing of the Republican Party is on its way out, and that the "pretensions to intellect" wing will have to find sponsorship to remain relevant. Frum would rather be a Slave in Heaven than a Ruler in Hell, particularly as any Ruler in Hell ain't going to be him.

And with Heaven on the ascent, he may feel it a better bet to work the huge and changeable constituency of Purgatory. For a guy craving validation, not just desiring to feed the fantasy lives of the Plumber Joe Army, that might be a natural thing. For the rest of us, it means having to endure Frum's wheedling commentary on NPR for a few more years, where he has renewed his gig as "semi-regular irritant".

He's also making a bet that the extreme right isn't coming back anytime soon. If it is, he'll be taken out and shot. Which would be good news, except that we'd be next.

Rush Limbaugh has no allegiance to the Republican Party. His only allegiance is to himself--his ego and his bank account.
Unlike Mr. Frum, I don't believe he is in the midst of some political scheme. He's just being the arrogant song-and-dance man he's always been.
For heaven's sakes, he's a radio guy and radio is dying/dead. How long can he last? He has to make his money every minute he can.

Frum can say what he wants to say because he is Canadian (I think) and he isn't running for anything in the United States.

Give him more and more rope to hang himself. He's going crazy with powe, as it is. Republicans are catering to him because he has 20 million listeners. This is the beginning of the end for good ole' Rush. He appears to be hopped up on drugs.

self-indulgence... exactly.

and listened to his yesterday show. he was saying he talked an hour over his alloted time because everyone was encouraging him to speak more. yeah right. like he just doesn't LOVE to hear his own voice. in the end, his own ego will bring him down.

David Frum, how many hours will pass before you apologize? If you do not start backtracking, saying that you didn't really mean to criticize Rush, then begin heaping compliments to him..............well, then you may be very alone. It didn't take Steele long, he knows his place.

"A walking stereotype of self indulgence."

Precisely! He and Rove wreak of defiant self indulgence as our lives crumble under economic stress.

I love the Rush Limbaugh upraising of the GOP. He is their new self appointed King. Rush and the rushian dittoheads are a bunch a angry idiots. Keep Rush talk and keep his new title out there for the next four years. The GOP are going to have to explain the apologies and how they stay quiet while Rush took over the party. It will make them all look wimpy! Use Rush's words against the entire party!

"He plays an important role in our coalition, and of course he and his supporters have to be treated with respect. But he cannot be allowed to be the public face of the enterprise – and we have to find ways of assuring the public that he is just one Republican voice among many, and very far from the most important."
Frum's first sentence above is the apology. Then Frum gives the spanking which he will apologize for later today or tomorrow (he'll call it "clarifying", but we all know what it is).
I love how the GOP calls Rush an "entertainer" and declares the value of that for the Party and the USA, but when Keith Olberman is "entertaining" he is vilified by the GOP.
The GOP worships at the shrine of Ronald Reagan, AN ACTOR, but then vilifies Sean Penn for his Oscar speech and feels he should not speak about politics, because he is "AN ACTOR".
"Don't do what I do, do what I say". Rush and the GOP are banking on that parental approach working against President Obama. Fortunately, most THINKING Americans are not 15 year old boys.

If Rush is all the GOP has....well I would say they are in deep doo doo!
