LOS ANGELES — The Disney Channel is going back to school with "High School Musical 4."

The fourth iteration of the popular musical franchise will begin production later this year and premiere in 2010.

The Disney Channel said in a statement Tuesday that the new movie will introduce a new cast of characters and will focus on a cross-town school rivalry.

"High School Musical" drew an audience of 7.7 million when it debuted in 2006. "High School Musical 2" more than doubled viewership of the original with 17.2 million in 2007. "High School Musical 3" was released in theaters in 2008 and made more than $40 million its opening weekend.

I can see it now....in 2056 we'll have "High School Musical 92....Applying for Medicare" with choreographed wheelchair routines and a love interest between an aging dancer and her orthopedic surgeon.

They can make 20 of these cheese piles, as far as I care, as long as they quit shoving it down the public's throat. I already know far more about these vacuous and not-visibly-talented people than I have any interest in knowing, and that's with an actual EFFORT to avoid them.

Okay, so I do also care about the lowered standards. Disney has perfected this LCD (Lowest Common Denominator) media machine and is systematically training generations to accept completely mindless, disposable, unchallenging schlock as the standard in entertainment. They're manufacturing consumers without discernment. If you can't see the risk that this poses to the political process, it may already be too late for you.

I haven't seen the first High School Musical yet! I recently watched Grease and found it silly but so fun. Perhaps I ought to watch the first to see what it's like.

I think this is a wrong move for Disney. They should just leave it alone while it's still good.

In a few years create High School Musical: The Reunion.

They're just going to ruin a good thing. And soon enough kids are going to get sick of it and not want to watch it anymore.

Why not concentrate on Camp Rock 2 or something different entirely.

get a grip snipers.......you are not the center of the universe............these movies are for
children/9-13 year old girls mostly. they are a cartoon with live people of a fantasy for little girls (who following the disney tradition that prince chaming is out there) adore. There are enough violent games for boys, cars and trucks, monsters and shoot-em ups. can't little girls have just one,
pretty happy ending.

Not that I am singing the praises of this article, but...did you even read it? Because if you had, it would be pretty obvious that they are focusing on a new group of teenagers for the new film...Maybe it is you that is in need of repeating a grade. One of the first things I remember learning in school was to read the complete passage before going on to the next part.......
