The worst thing is that the Catholic Church still doesn't get or acknowledge what they did wrong. The child abuse was evil but moving these abusing priests from Parish to Parish after they knew was the real crime here. They increased the victims over years of moving these clergy around.

They still don't acknowlede that was wrong. Instead what do they do? Blame gay clergy. Yep - that's the class act the Catholic Church is.

They are so egotistical in thinking that their clergy is "better" than the average citizen - they actually believed they could move these people around instead of confronting it.

Well I hope they continue to pay and pay often. They EARNED this.

The Catholic Church as a whole is soley responsible for the mess its in. It amazes me that the leaders of the Catholic church are stumped as to why attendance is down in parishes throughout the United States. While the Church has done alot of good as far as the charities it runs, the Church itself has a hard time of proving to the public that it is a charitable and benevolent orginization when they have a horrible history of protecting pedophile priests.
The Archdiocese of Chicago along with the Catholic Church is run as a business, and while their investments may fund charitable acts, I have no sympathy for them when I hear that they are in a financial predicament due in large part to the pedophile priest scandal.
The Catholic Church should be forced by the courts to sell its assets (real estate, investment portfolios, etc.) to pay the victims and their legal fees.

Oh Lord, please hear our prayer for more money. Please enter the hearts of our parishioners and force them to turn over their tithes so that we can pay damages and get back to preying on the payers.

I guess if they hadn't allowed these sick pedophiles to abuse kids it wouldn't have cost them anything.

The Archdiocese should lose taxpayer subsidies (start paying property tax; disallow deductions for donations) and pay for the state's cost to incarcerate the guilty priests. They are serial offenders at the public trough.

I just cannot get to this. There is something so wrong about abusing a child, about an adult abusing a child, and it just gets by me to figure out why priests, whether they are catholic or hassidic, who are supposed to behold the good and the virtue, would even have the thought of doing such repugnant harm to children.
It just gets by me to understand why, when such perpetrators are discovered, that their churches protect them against prosecution.
It is hard to go to church and, since the church will not unmask the perpetrators, to think that there is a chance that the priest in front of me might be a creep. For the same reason, I would never entrust my child to a priest. No way.

if we taxed all religions, would there be a deficit?

often I wonder, this country has been so good to religions, wouldn't it be "charitable" if those religions were equally good to their host country by giving to the government, if not in taxes, then in a tithe of 10%?

I'm reminded of the joke: you are to tithe and give money to God (just that concept alone is crazy), so I take all of my money and throw it up in the air, that which stays "up" God can keep, all that falls, belongs to me! tah-dah!

sexual scandals, in an organization that suppresses sexual "desire" unless it's for procreation within marriage. wow. what an irony
