"D.L. Hughley Breaks The News" Canceled On CNN

Comedian D.L. Hughley was pummeled by critics when his weekend talk show debuted on CNN last fall. "What the hell was CNN thinking?" a columnist for AdAge asked after watching the first episode. It remains unclear what was running through the minds of CNN execs when they signed him up for the spectacularly unfunny program featuring painfully awkward interviews. But the network may have come to its senses or at least decided to cut its losses. A source tells us that CNN has decided to cancel the show due to "budgetary constraints."

Well, I liked it, and I think it improved a lot over the time it was on, with D.L. getting better at what he did there. He gave us a different perspective, which I think was helpful. This means I'll probably rarely watch CNN as this was the only show I did like and record on the DVR. Oh well, I watch too much TV anyway....

That's too bad. I'm disappointed. I grew to really like the show and looked forward to seeing it every week. I think D.L. is very bright, thoughtful and insightful. I enjoyed his interviews and guests and I'll miss the show.
I don't 'get' the cancellation. It was the best show on CNN.

I agree with other commentors. After Ted Turner sold out, it was no longer a news station. It keeps getting worse. I do not want my news to be filled with comedy, incessant banter, aw' shucks mentality and personal opinions of the "newscaste­rs"/"perso­nalitites"­. If I wanted all that, I would watch my local early morning news stations. CNN no longer has credibility. It's a shame.

CNN (Cable Negativity News) needs to cancel that whole network. It is horrible. First of all, that network is made up of many neo-cons, John King, Candy Crowley, Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer, Josh Levy, etc and all they do is slam President Obama. on his every move. I did not see clips of Claire McCaskill slamming the Republicans, but saw the Rev. Wright clips on a loop. CNN was one of the best channels for news a long, long, long time ago.. When Ted Turner owned it. It showed world news as well. Also, the Nancy Grace show is disgraceful. I don't know how she can sleep at night knowing that she is exploiting missing children. She has been exploiting the Caylee Anthony story for over a year. Now, she has moved on to another missing little girl. CNN and HLN do not report the news.

Yeh I agree. It was rough at first and I didn't care for it. However, I have really enjoyed it lately and started watching it again. I just saw Ron Paul and Frank Schaeffer on his show and loved it. I think CNN needs to give it awhile longer.

I thought the show was awful, when it first came out. But, I have to say that he has gotten better every week. I'm sorry they are canceling when he was really getting good.

I am sorry to see DL go...he gave a new twist to the same old news that we hear over and over from others....his was a different way of looking at it. He made the news funny. In these hard times we need more shows like his. I smell a rat here. Could it be the fact he callled out on Michael Steele and the Rush Limbaugh thing? - because after that -the whole week we heard Steele apoligising on this.......one makes you wonder - who's side is CNN on? ......DL should try his show on MSNBC - they have a lot of open slots. I sure will miss watching him. Good luck DL.

I'm sure D.L. could find work in another area. I watched his show a few times when it first air, and then stopped watching it. He his not "host' material. To be blunt here ,he needs to go back to school, get an education. I know he was a gang banger at one time with the Bloods and has come a long way,so thats all good, but really, he must know that he is made look a fool on his own show because of his lack of knowledge. I'm glad his airtime was cancelled, was tired of seeing him making a fool of himself

sorry to see DL go. he made a change on the repetition channel. ACNN keeps replaying the same shows over and over and on every show they use the same talking points, interviews, etc. If you have seen the situation room once there is no need to watch AC 360 because it will just be a repeat of what was on the Situation room. No bias no bull , what a joke, try we will tell you our biased view and we will bs you. DL was a refreshing show who said it as it is. CNN should be called the one food diet.

Sounds similar to the cut with the great work Roland Martin was doing with his own show on cnn. hmmmm.....they THINK they want to truth to be told but then......not so much.

I think the final blow was when Steele made his comment about people wanting Bush to fail in Iraq and DL numbly agreed with him. Instead of stopping him and asking him to clarify the statement, he let it go by. No good commentator would let such a stupid comment go without attention.

Name one person that stood up and said they want Bush to fail in Iraq. Name the person, name the time, name the place. I'm sure it there is a video clip somewhere. A pod cast. A YouTube link. A newspaper clipping. I want to see it.

I want to know who this person is that said they want George Bush to fail in Iraq. I know a lot of people, liberals and conservatives alike, were opposed to the war in Iraq. I know a lot of people wanted our troops home. I know a lot of people who the whole effort in Iraq was a waste of time, money, effort and troop stregnth. But I have yet to hear of anyone who said they wanted Bush to fail in Iraq.

Of course, maybe DL and Steele know something I don't know. So please enlighten me. Show me the clip where someone is declaring their desire for Bush to fail in Iraq. Because otherwise I'm leaning towards thinking it is was just a flimsy excuse for justifying Rush's comment about wanting Obama to fail in saving the economy of the United States.

DL is a comedian...he should have never been given the show. Bush and his cronies bankrupted this country and many in the media was complicit in helping him do it.
Did DL say that the republican national convention looked like Nazi's?
We may be really missing out on why this show was cancelled so quick.
CNN let DL stay on for weeeks and now all of a sudden they object to him. hmmmmmmmm

I really liked DL's show, it was a pleasant change from the same boring style of news. Not only did I find DL to be intelligent on the issues, he also delivered it in his funny, comedic style. I think the problem is that when people tune into CNN, they expect hard news, not a comedy central type political show. It's not DL's fault that CNN did not attract the young viewership at that time slot that tends to watch Colbert and Jon Stewart.
