Michele Bachmann: Obama Making "The Final Leap To Socialism"

In an interview with conservative host Bill Bennett Thursday, Minnesota Republican Rep. Michelle Bachmann warned that President Obama is taking the country down a dark path -- but there's still time to save ourselves.

"If you look at FDR, LBJ, and Barack Obama, this is really the final leap to socialism," she said. "But we all know that we could turn this around and we can turn this around fairly quickly. We're still a free country."

"And as the Democrats are about to institutionalize cartels -- that's what they're very good at -- they're trying to consolidate power," she continued, "so we need to do everything we can to thwart them at every turn to make sure that they aren't able to, for all time, secure a power base that for all time can never be defeated."

Bachmann isn't the only GOP congressperson who thinks Obama is dragging the country into socialism (although she may be the only one to link the effort to an endless Democratic Party conspiracy). Of Obama's health care plan, Rep. Zach Wamp of Tennessee said Thursday on MSNBC: "It's probably the next major step towards socialism. I hate to sound so harsh, but.... this literally is a fast march towards socialism, where the government is bigger than the private sector in our country and health care's the next major step, so we oughta all be worried about it."

What I don't understand about people like you, Right-turn, is how gullible you and your like are. You swallow the party line hook, line and sinker. You don't question it. The republican party, that is the people who really run it., don't give a flying rats ass about you. All they want from you is your vote, so they can get the right people elected, the people that will care about THEM and screw you over and make you like it. What exactly do we need to save ourselves from...Democrats using tax dollars to help Americans? The alternative is to turn things back over to the Republicans and allow Republicans to use American tax dollars to help foreigners.

Republicans spent $50 BILLION on reconstruction in Iraq. Yes, $50 BILLION in infrastructure in Iraq, for Iraqis.

Nearly every project completed and paid for with our hard-earned dollars--dollars we need to rebuild our country--was subsequently damaged or destroyed by insurgents. In 2004, electricity, water, oil, etc. production had dropped by 70%; by 2008 Republican’s spent $50 billion on reconstruction, but returned only10% of that lost production. Talk about a poor return on investment.

Many of the Republican projects were never completed. The Republicans wasted $40 MILLION of American taxpayer dollars on a half build prison. But had prison in Khan Bani Saad, Iraq been completed it would have cost American taxpayers $73 MILLION dollars.

Frankly I much prefer Obama and the Democrat’s socialism: spending American tax dollars in American, putting Americans to work; helping Americans renegotiate their mortgage interest rates to stay in their homes, to keep home values up in neighborhoods in America.

The next step will be watching those that pay the taxes leave this country and refuse to pay the costs of socialism. Hopefully, the people that elected this socialist regime will figure out that he lied to them about only taxing the top 5%. They will get killed in the next few years, but the bottom rung of wage earners will too with the tobacco tax, oil tax increase or pelosi's milage tax and the huge cap and trade hidden tax that will raise the cost of everything we make and buy. Obamas deficits will be larger than Bush's plus all the other presidents put together.

I guess that would mean stopping the aid that you don't like and continue with aid that you do. To stop all aid would include farm subsidies to small family farms and big corporate ones. It would also mean removing tariffs on imports, including cars and trucks. And, no more aid to Israel.

People pass around the word "socialism" like its the most terrible thing that could happen. Reality is, the so called "socialist" countries in the developed world have a much better standard of living than the US, they have universal single payer health care that is very good, they DO pay more in taxes, but look at what they receive for those taxes. Sweden, UK, Canada, many countries are much closer to Socialism and I think it would be great for our country. Socialism is not a dirty word, it is not "Communism", it is more controlled than Capitalism, but in a country as large as ours, to take care of the millions of people we have, we need some protections built in.

Bachmann is a nut. She is so far to the fundamentalist right that she is closer to Faschism than I am to Communism.
