The Plum Line:

The news that Sanjay Gupta has decided not to go for the gig of surgeon general has already fired up supporters of Howard Dean, who are now touting him for the post.

But a close Dean ally familiar with his thinking tells me that it's not really a gig that would work for him. "It's not a good fit for him," this ally tells me.

I think wherever he goes he will be a tremendous asset to the American people. I think as Surgeon General, he could definitely get people fired up through his tremendous grassroots outreach skill set. I think he could get people excited about doing the right thing for their health and others.

He's too much of a loose cannon and I think people don't like him. Surgeon General has to be able to speak to the people about health issues. His personality might be suited to the Health Czar position. That person is going to need to tough as nails to work on health care reform. I see him more in that role. I don't think it's disrespectful for President Obama to select who he wants. He didn't owe John Kerry a position and he does not owe Howard Dean one. For him to lobby for this job is very tacky.

Seems to me like he'd be a great fit, and a forceful advocate of health issues. He'd be a MUCH better pick than Gupta, that's for damn sure.

Did anyone see Rachael Maddow the other night where she interviewed Dean and underneath him was the header " Howard Dean speaks to the republican (opps the Limpaugh party) party"? I have wondered why the Obama Administration has not utilized him.

Man Dr.Howard Dean is the right man for the job and he would be such an asset to Kathleen Sebelius as well.

Poor Dean out cast by his own party, even after he helped them win the Presidency and close to a super majority in Congress. Oh well...BWAAAAAAAAAHH!
