Mother Nature Network:

Of the school's 520 students, less than 10% opted to receive paper handouts, either because they prefer that form or more likely because they don't have Internet access at home. And important info like report cards still get sent home on paper. But still, the school's paper reduction has not only helped to eliminate waste, it's also saving the school a fortune in paper costs....$1,521 this year according to Liberty Principal Tanja Pederson.

Last year, we had some loud mouth teacher who lives down the street from my daughter's private school, and who teaches at the local public school, write a letter to the editor of the Union-Trib about how the "evil" Christian school in her neighborhood was destroying the environment. We had passed out flyers in the neighborhood inviting everyone to our year-end school carnival and silent auction, and made 500 copies of a one-sheet flyer. She received one at her door.

Little did she know that those 600 copies were the only pieces of paper printed for school business besides the report cards for the kids, a 1-sheet year end project paper for the parents and 2 permission slips for the kids for their fieldtrips. That amounts to 1,850 sheets of paper for an entire school for one year. Everything else is automated and online through the school website and portal. I doubt her school can even accomplish that for one class.

Online capabilities rule.

If one more stimulus bill provides Kindles to all schoolchildren (replace all paper?) can we then talk the Chinese into not buying up all our other stuff? If not, then how?

I don't see anything wrong with using the paper if it is recycled paper.

Computer and internet are the best source of finding information but the Worse enemy of human communication.
