I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Coulter Ugh

Meghan McCain, self-styled Republican party critic and Daily Beast blogger, has a serious beef with Ann Coulter.

I straight up don't understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time. But no matter how much you or I disagree with her, the cult that follows Coulter cannot be denied.

McCain takes issue with the fact that Coulter is reliably one of the most public faces of the struggling-to-find-its-new-image party, because she is easily pushing away the few members the party has left.

... But here is what I don't get about Coulter: Is she for real or not? Are some of her statements just gimmicks to gain publicity for her books or does she actually believe the things she says? Does she really believe all Jewish people should be "perfected" and become Christians? And what was she thinking when she said Hillary Clinton was more conservative than my father during the last election? If you truly have the GOP's best interests at heart, how can you possibly justify telling an audience of millions that a Democrat would be a better leader than the Republican presidential candidate?

McCain goes on to suggest that if she herself, the daughter of a former GOP presidential candidate, is regularly turned off by Coulter's extremist antics, what must the general public think?

McCain is equally baffled by the GOP's official leadership. In an ABC radio interview, she admits she doesn't understand Michael Steele's new "hip hop" strategy.

If you're saying I want people from the hip-hop community -- I don't even know what that means exactly -- I guess people that are in the music industry could become more closer and you know try and become Republicans (sic). I just don't think that is going to work. I think they need to rely on a message that is going to really stick with people of my generation.

And in a previous Daily Beast post, the campaign blogger expressed frustration with the lack of Internet savvy in the Republican party.

Meghan McCain, self-styled Republican party critic and Daily Beast blogger, has a serious beef with Ann Coulter. I straight up don't understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, rad...

Someone in this thread wrote the following:
"This war was prolonged not by President Bush' and his inability to make logical decisions but by a group of rotten apples who wanted to spoil the barrel because they lost an election not once but twice."

The statement tries to make it seem that the Democrats are responsible for the War in Iraq. I would remind the correspondent that the war was initiated by a series of lies, not based on "faulty intelligence", but calculated to obfuscate the truth and to make a play for the oil that Dick Cheney specified in his (still) secret energy policy. Wolfowitz had the war all mapped out before 9/11. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, had no weapons of mass destruction, and did not harbor terrorists. But Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld, again and again, said they did.

I am not saying the Dems are blameless in this. Their mistake was not questioning the veracity of the administration in its illegal oil quest. The war was not "prolonged" by Bush. It was initiated by Bush. That is why your friends died. The bad apple was Bush, period.

While the election was being conducted I felt that most Democrats were fanatical enough to destroy the country to get their way and I’m sure you felt the same about Republicans. I don’t believe I owe it to you or anyone else to reduce the size of your mortgage because I feel you should have bought responsibly and well within your budget. You don’t get just one chance to buy a house and therefore must go deeply into debt to get the biggest one you can obtain. Instead you do like our parents did and you buy what you can afford with the intent to upgrade in the future when you can afford better. You don’t have to have the best even when you clearly can’t afford it. Instead use some common sense and settle for less or save until you can afford what you want. You don’t have the right to incur debt and then when you get in to far declare bankruptcy and start over. Jobs are not secure and you have no God given right to take on more debt than you can sustain.

GWB lied abgut WMD, cherry-picked intelligence and invaded a country that posed no threat to us. Who cares about building schools in Iraq? Really... WHO CARES????!!!!! 3000 people were murdered by terrorists on our own soil, the composer of the plot was never captured and brought to justice and we're supposed to be happy that schools are being built in Iraq? To think that my tax $$$ are going to rebuild schools in Iraq is infuriating. I care about my kids schools here in MY country.

I have a feeling that you have not spent one minute in Iraq.

Deregulation of the system is what started all of this. When I bought my house the bank did a credit check and employment check and they told me how much I could afford to borrow so what happened to this system? The banks could create more loans with out having the money to cover the foreclosures and since the banks didn't need to hold on to these loans they just split up the shaky loans with the good loans and sold them off as good loans cooking the books. The Republicans want to just blame it on these homeowners who should have never received loans from the banks; now tell me who do you think is more responsible for these loans the people who OK these loans to people who were not qualified or the people who were told they could by the home. You also have to remember that these sub prime loans were ARM Mortgages that the payment went up by hundreds of $ and some doubled, could you pay double what you were told your payment would be? Jobs are not secure and according to you no one has a God given right to take on more debt then you can sustain so no one should buy any house unless they have cash on hand to pay for it because no one knows when they will lose their job or become unable to work in the future.

This would all be very relevant if Republicans had not changed all the rules, so that credit card companies can change your rate from 7% to 32% if your payment is one day late - or allowed banks to have arms with unlimited rates.

The mortgage plan does not do anything but allow people who are current in their mortgages and able to afford their homes, to refinance to a better rate, perhaps for a longer term, even if they are "underwater" - that is owe more than their house is now worth. This will help stabilize the home market, prevent foreclosures and save the banks. Your better idea to let them fail would create a catastrophic great depression. And why? so you can feel superior? Good for you.

Republicans are now the Grand Old Party of stupidity. We do not have the luxury of listening to their BS anymore.

Now you want to talk about how obstructionist the Republicans are because they won’t get on board for more of the same old crap that Democrats try every time they get into office. The Republicans need to clean house and stop sheltering the element that we have allowed to stay in office despite never accomplishing the things we send them to Washington to do but at the same time the Democrats need to stop electing the same old crowd time and again while expecting a different outcome. Barrack Obama is the President and I wish him well because it will only hurt us more as a Nation if he fails however at the same time I will not climb onboard the train with you and worship him as the Messiah because that he is clearly not. The current President deserves a chance to succeed or fail without the hindrance of any rational individual who values the American way of life but don’t get on your soap box now and preach about how the Republicans are doing things differently that the Democrats did for the last 8 years. We need to come together as a Country and support our leader no matter which side of the aisle he comes from however that leader has to realize he doesn’t represent a party anymore but the entire Country of America.

Whenever something positive came out about Iraq it was quickly drowned in a Sea of negativity. The Democratic Party was the party of obstructionism during all but the first year of the war when the greater majority of them voted to go into Iraq based on the intelligence available at the time. It is easy to sit back here in your armchair and play Monday morning quarterback but quite a bit harder to hold your tongue while members of the obstructionists who aren't in office at the time sell you out to the enemy. This war was prolonged not by President Bush' and his inability to make logical decisions but by a group of rotten apples who wanted to spoil the barrel because they lost an election not once but twice. I commonly refer to this group as traitors because they caused many of my friends to die by convincing the enemy that if they could just hold out a little longer we would withdraw in defeat even though we were winning. When soldiers are dying in a war zone the American people owe it to those they sent into harm’s way to be totally supportive of our efforts.

Why don't you head over to fallujah and ask the Iraqi's about all these positive actions. The war was prolonged because incompetent people with personal interests in the defense industry were put in charge. Your Rovian Revisionism may work on the dittoheads, but that is about it. I don't have to support everything a soldier does because W's dictatorship ended almost 2 years ago, but I have to ask, are you from North Korea?

The entire world knows you cow**rds should not have gone to Iraq. A brave man does not rush into a fight, just an impulsive and perhaps senseless man.

As a grieving Aunt, whose Nephew died fighting your stupid war, I really don't care much about some posters' ideas of what 'support" is. No one is Blaming the SOLDIERS, we are blaming the government, and hiding our heads in the sand pretending that if we find fault with the Government we are somehow denying SUPPORT to soldiers is ridiculous.

Finally, I had the experience of sitting in an Airport in Atlanta for several hours, on a day when some young men and women were slated to leave America for the war zone. Among the bustling crowd, fussing on cell phones, rushing to catch flights, there was nary a one to offer a word of encouragement to the little peach-fuzz boys going off.

Sure, at an appointed time, some people took a few harried minutes out of their very IMPORTANT time to give a desultory round of applause ( much as the Romans must have done when the lions entered the Arena) but other than that, the soldiers were ignored. I looked at the baby faces of these CHILDREN and said a prayer for the hardhearted men and women of America who did not think TWICE before sacrificing these soldiers.

Brave face put on by the masses? Looked like indifference to me.....

When Soldiers go to war they don't rush into the fight they are sent by their elected representatives. When we went to war we fully expected to lose 100,000 men and at the conclusion of 6 years in the Iraqi theater we are still under 1/20 of that. If you lost a nephew then I am sorry for your loss. No one said anything about you blaming the Soldiers that was your own rant. What I said was that when you send us to war we deserve your whole hearted support. You say no one offered a word of encouragement to those Soldiers and I'll bet you're wrong. What you meant was that you didn't see anyone offer them encouragement and obviously despite your hours in the terminal you chose not to do so yourself otherwise I'm sure you would have mentioned it. Every time I have deployed or returned I have been greeted by very thankful citizens of the United States, Iceland, Ireland, England, Spain and Canada . Everywhere we have stopped either enroute to the Middle East or returning we have been welcomed with open arms.

As a Special Forces Soldier who has spent 52 months downrange in the war on terror I find it laughable that you would decry the loss of life and the injuries suffered by those of us fighting in the war on terror. The Democratic Party in an attempt to win more representation in Congress, the Senate and finally the White House has consistently sold out the individuals fighting the war. I am not going to try to claim that the Republicans have all the answers because clearly that isn't the case however I haven't heard too many of the Republican representatives talking about how we are losing the war when my perspective on the ground was entirely different. We have made amazing progress toward making the country of Iraq safer for the average citizen by improving schools, hospitals, clinics, roads, electricity production, improving the quality of the water system, improving infrastructure throughout the country and yet none of that was reported in the news or by MSM back here in the states.

Shoddy American contractors charging double for half the work. Do you really think they cared about you? And saying all those things were built is misleading, can you show us and report or study that can prove that claim. Last year, a fair bit of that country was still lacking the basic necessities, but I suppose they should be grateful for having some of the bombed out cities rebuilt by shoddy contractors.

p.s. you are absolutely incorrect, the progress in Iraq has been reported by the major news networks. Now I'd like to see my neighborhood school improved and the roads I drive on repaired and my tax dollars staying at home. Thanks again for your service (I mean that sincerely, I'm not being trite)

How, exactly, has the Democratic Party consistently sold out individuals fighting the war? And just don't throw out the party line, give some specific examples that show a distinct pattern, since that is the case that you are making. It is no surprise to the majority of proud Democrats that frequent this site that the US military is accomplishing the mission it has been given. That is what we do, as the finest military in the world. The point is that the previous administration took its eyes off of the target and cooked up false premises to carelessly invade a country that had nothing to do with the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Furthermore, they diminished our legitimacy and moral high ground by tossing the priciples of the Geneva Convention out the window. As U.S. Soldiers we have all sworn to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But what do we do when our own leaders toss aside the constitutional rights of all Americans through legislation such as the Patriot Act? Americans have spoken loud and clear that they have had enough and are ready to be liberated from the past 8 years of Republican tyranny and oppression. After all, that is what we Special Forces Soldiers do, right? We liberate the oppressed.

Like how she stated she's very pro military and if that's the case how does she feel about the thousands of young American boys and girls getting killed or maimed in the middle east. I wish she would have said the same about Bill'O, Limbaugh, Hanity and co. But I suppose beggars cant' be choosers.

Its not hard to understand her popularity, when you consider the popularity of "Professional Wrestling" or sensationalist tabloid "journalism ". She's out to make a buck, and as long as we give her legitimacy, she will continue. She makes her living "Two Cents" at a time, ...In fact she just earned the two cents that I gave her..... Seriously, If we all stop paying her salary ...she will go away ...Perhaps she will study Judaism with so much time on her hands.

Coulter is a showgirl and she knows the value of money and marketing for that money. She is the female counterpart of Limbaugh. It is strictly showbiz. Dangerous showbiz however in that a deadhead actor called Ronny Reagen was voted in as President. Maybe Coulter and Limbaugh will be the next Repub ticket. Coulter sort of believes what she says but her main motivation is money money money. After all it's hard for a girl to find a good paying job nowadays and you gotta take care of yourself.
