Meghan McCain: Ann Coulter 'Offensive, Insulting, Confusing'

Meghan McCain, self-styled Republican party critic and Daily Beast blogger, has a serious beef with Ann Coulter.

I straight up don't understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time. But no matter how much you or I disagree with her, the cult that follows Coulter cannot be denied.

McCain takes issue with the fact that Coulter is reliably one of the most public faces of the struggling-to-find-its-new-image party, because she is easily pushing away the few members the party has left.

... But here is what I don't get about Coulter: Is she for real or not? Are some of her statements just gimmicks to gain publicity for her books or does she actually believe the things she says? Does she really believe all Jewish people should be "perfected" and become Christians? And what was she thinking when she said Hillary Clinton was more conservative than my father during the last election? If you truly have the GOP's best interests at heart, how can you possibly justify telling an audience of millions that a Democrat would be a better leader than the Republican presidential candidate?

McCain goes on to suggest that if she herself, the daughter of a former GOP presidential candidate, is regularly turned off by Coulter's extremist antics, what must the general public think?

McCain is equally baffled by the GOP's official leadership. In an ABC radio interview, she admits she doesn't understand Michael Steele's new "hip hop" strategy.

If you're saying I want people from the hip-hop community -- I don't even know what that means exactly -- I guess people that are in the music industry could become more closer and you know try and become Republicans (sic). I just don't think that is going to work. I think they need to rely on a message that is going to really stick with people of my generation.

And in a previous Daily Beast post, the campaign blogger expressed frustration with the lack of Internet savvy in the Republican party.

what terrible women - both of them. meghan repeatedly proclaims her complete dedication to the 'GOP", lock step, etc. meanwhile coultier repeatedly proclaims her complete nihilism and cynicism in the face of all logic. please - marginalize both of them!

Good for meghan telling it like it is. What she says reflects what young people are saying. The negative qualities of Coulter is a turnoff to voters of all ages. The tone is very different from what i remember 30 years ago.
Hopefully this will bring republicans to their senses.

The DEMOCRATIC dream would be for Rush Limpy, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity and the like, to not destroy themselves and stick around until at least 2012. These are the people that get DEMOCRATS elected. The followers (republican base) gets fired up, but we all know that they are really irrevelant. They would do well to listen to her. The party of Eisenhower has sunk to a real low, and if it wants to come back then it should abandon its populist boobery a la Joe the Plumber and its obnoxious extremists like Coulter and Rush.

Although I am sure that Meghan McCain and I do not share the same views, I applaud her for at least speaking out. We can have intelligent discourse with people we don't agree with without yelling, screaming, and calling for all out genocide. I read some of the comments under her piece, and she IS getting bashed pretty heartily from both sides, but especially from the neo-cons. I imagine that if people started calling me a DINO, or a LINO or whatever the f*ck, I would exit stage left. We're American's first. She's very young, and it shows through her writing, but the young are the future of their party, and even as a liberal, I kind of like them.

it is either totally calculated to appeal to her audience, or the girl's inner dialog never gets beyond the level of superficial self-reflection.. what the entire GOP needs is an existential crisis followed by years in the desert, on vision quest.

Sorry guys, but all Ann Coulter does is point out the contradictions within the Progressive Movement with a delivery not unlike Lenny Bruce . Her positions on Democrats are no more (or less) caustic than Olberman or Rhodes comments vis-a-vis Conservatives, but they're just a lot more humorous, and a lot less defensive. She is happy to be a Conservative, and comfortable in her own skin, while so many on the left come off as just the opposite. Miss McCain is clearly a moderate, a centrist if you will, so anything too extreme on the right will offend her. She obviously does not share the political convictions of a Coulter, Limbaugh, or Ingraham. No big deal here.

AnnCoulter has repeatedly called for Genocide on national boradcast television.

For example "I'm getting a little fed up with hearing about, oh, civilian casualties. I think we ought to nuke North Korea right now just to give the rest of the world a warning."

This is a federal crime according to U.S.Code, chapter 50A

"(c) Incitement Offense. - Whoever in a circumstance described in subsection (d) directly and publicly incites another to violate subsection (a) shall be fined not more than $500,000 or imprisoned not more than five years, or both."

Why is Ann Coulter not in prison?

Then theres her stance on advocating the murder of a sitting supreme court justice,
"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee," Coulter said

Pursuant to 18 U.S.C. Section 115, anyone who "threatens to assault, kidnap, or murder . . . a United States judge . . . with intent to impede, intimidate, or interfere with" that judge's duties is guilty of a felony.

Again why is Ann Coulter not in Jail?
