Democrats are not slowing down their efforts to try and tie the Republican Party to Rush Limbaugh.

On Tuesday, the Democratic National Committee released the five finalists for the slogan that will adorn a billboard in the talk show host's hometown. From the contest launched last week, which, aides say, attracted 56,000 submissions, came this::

* "Americans didn't vote for a Rush to failure" * "Hope and change cannot be Rush'd" * "Failure is not an option for America's future" * "We can fix America, just don't Rush it" * "Rush: Say yes to America"

The results were made public in an email from DNC Executive Director Jen O'Malley Dillon.

In a strictly political context, the way the DNC is publicizing the project underscores their commitment to making Limbaugh the GOP boogeyman. In recent days, Republicans have complained that the Obama administration and DNC are pushing trivial distractions in the face of important economic challenges. Limbaugh, of course, brought much of this on himself by calling for Obama's failure. But Democrats do seem confidant that they have a winning hand and aren't willing, just yet, to drop this fight.

Even if Rush "forgets", that's no excuse for my party to waste thousands of bucks on taunting him and continuing this kind of high-school-style baiting and eye-poking. It degrades everything Obama is trying to do.

Candidly, I view all this as an outrageous waste of time. We finally have someone in the White House for whom such things as thoughtful and nuanced ideas are not anathema. This will probably not happen again in my lifetime. We should seize such an opportunity and not be distracted. This whole stupid obsession over Rush shows that some in the DNC still think they're in the campaign. They're not. It's over and they won. Do they get it? They won.

Now drop this Rush nonsense, and let's go forward on the urgent fronts of a teetering economy, the need for clean domestic energy, for globally competitive education, for easily available health care, for greater cohesion among our allies abroad, for holding the international line on calculated terror against pluralism, for holding the international line on global diplomacy and the rule of law, and the need for proceeding internationally and cooperatively on addressing polar warming and global climate control.

Well, this would explain why his ratings are in the dump.

I'll be he's not even on the air next week.

The five selections seem tame which Limbaugh most assuredly is not.
How about the following:

The GOP: Rush'ing ever deeper into Limbo with Limbaugh.

BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA

In order to gain the political power they've enjoyed over the last ten years, Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians and Limbaugh’s radical and pliable right wing misanthropes and bigots) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. It was a conscious political decision to manipulate and exploit ignorance and irrational fears in order to win elections rather than being intellectually and morally honest and lose them.

Today, those Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and or casting out the devils they empowered, and the karmic reality that they don’t have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without accepting and even falsely "advocating" values that are dividing and destroying their party. The survival of today's Republican Party has become so dependent on extremism, that they have no significant political power WITH or WITHOUT the support of America's most dysfunctional lunatic fringe.

The idiom about choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea is certainly appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are reaping what they have sown. Sucking up to George W. Bush cost them their credibility. Sucking up to Rush Limbaugh is costing them their viability.

Exactly!! Thank you. I've been saying this for so long, and people keep telling me that we need to point out how he's wrong. No, we don't! We need to just ignore him from here on out.

Arianna is right, it's Rove and his revisionism that needs stopping.. go to his home state and put up a billboard with a list of BushCo's war crimes, and crimes against the constitution.

Ok, that I might support, but this slogan thing is petty and useless, counterproductive actually.

Marie,

You don't understand.

We're trying to keep the focus of Limbaugh and off of President Obama's failed economic and foreign affair policies.

We need to keep this going as long as we can.

Its too bad dems are wasting there time with this. Finally we have a focused administration and we are wasting our times hating a blow hard who has more fun exercising his freedom of speech than we do wagging their fingers. Lets use that billboard to support meals on wheels, or national healthcare and move on.

I don't know what the answer is -- but there are a heck of a lot of Americans who get the "Rush" job and buy into it hook, line and sinker. You must know some of these people -- I know I do -- and that's the scary part -- that and that no matter what you say to them, they are blind to the truth.

Dems don't need slogans - they need Senator Al Franken to be seated.

His truth to power will put "the man who wants to eat everything" in his place.

How much did rush pay the DNC to elevate him to this level of parity with the CEO of AMERICA? I'm joking of course, but in their inept attempts to invalidate Rush they're succeeding in only making themselves look smaller.
To make Rush look small, one only needs to embrace him with love. Why not? He has probably done more to solidify the Dems than any other single thing attitudinally.
By embracing Rush with love and attention, it will of course cause his corps of followers to reject him because of "the taint" of liberalism.

Democrats focusing on Limbaugh because they have no answers on how to fix economy, deflect attention from all their pork-projects, and many blunders that are beginning to occur.

The Democratic legislators and president are working hard to reverse the destructive policies of the past eight years.
Your mindless retort is rather lame. Especially when most of the "pork" is added by Republican senators.

So if I understand you correctly, the Democrats really wanted the war on terror, and President Bush's policies to succeed these past 8 years?

Is that right??

Yes- We sincerely hoped that things would go well. We hoped the country would be safe, we hoped the world would hold us in high esteem, we hoped our troops would be safe and would not need to be away from home long, and we hoped that all American's had the opportunity to succeed. That was true when Bush was president, and it is true now.

Bush's policies, neither his policies in Iraq nor his domestic policies (i.e. economic), were policies that could succeed. This was a false expectation from the onset. Democrats, as well as many other Americans and people throughout the world, knew that Bush's war on terror, the central front of which he created in Iraq, was never a war that could be won or lost, or a war in which we could realize victory or defeat. From the first day of our invasion and occupation, our only choice was to stay or leave. Bush's choice was to "stay the course" indefinitely, and President Obama has chosen to leave responsibly. As far as the other policies of his war on terror - after witnessing his shredding of the Constitution, ignoring the real war in Afghanistan and growing hostilities in the Middle East, and lest we forget "Katrina" - there was never an expectation of success.

In respect to Bush's economic policies, we knew that this too was a policy that would succeed only for the wealthy, just as it had succeeded under Reagan for the wealthy. We already knew that "trickle-down economics" would not succeed for mainstream America.

For 8 years, it was never a choice for failure or success. The only choice we had was to hope for Bush and the GOP to either recognize the error of their ways or get out of the way!

If the Republicans were the least bit interested in honestly dealing with the economic challenges, they wouldn't have Rush as their leader.

Rush Limbaugh is simply an actor playing to his audience. Whatever the ultra right-wing wants to hear is what he is going to say. He probably wanted President Obama to win so he would have more to condemn
