I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Daily Show Michelle Obama

Kristen Schaal, Senior Women's Issues Commentator of the Daily Show, looked at the role of first ladies in American culture last night. It was disturbing. She kept showing footage of that insane Jackie Kennedy White House tour in which she looked and sounded as if she had been drugged and electrocuted for weeks before hand.

This video was used to give the audience context for how Michelle's first 100 days are going. So far, no crazy-pants interviews or long periods gone without blinking.

On the other hand, Schaal thinks her fashion could use a political bent, so she designed a few numbers. What does a chinchilla coat have to do with genocide? Duh, it's Dar-FUR.

The Bay of Pigs, Bobby's hounding Hoffa, US troops in 'Nam were tolerable in 1963 but B & W TV with Jackie's cutsey voice; if the Warren Commission didn't look into that-it really was a white wash.

"Jon, can I use your mug? She iced a lot of homies."

It was disrespectful, the last dress thing. It was gutter level humor.

You'll get over it.

It was funny until the buttttt less dress joke was presented.

Oh gosh....

I liked the skit, and I especially like the fact that they could make fun of the 1st Lady, without making it racially.

I think Jackie O was used as a comparison, (and whom I absolutely adored as a child), because so many people compare the two 1st ladies

"Not racially." Right. I don't imagine that Jill Biden or Hillary Clinton would be presented similarly. It was definitely racially problematic. Indeed, if Jon Stewart and Kristen Schaal think this is so innocently hyumorous, perhaps they should send it to Michelle Obama--or Barack Obama--to get their "take". Again: Thumbs down.

The Jackie-O stuff wasn't so much funny as it was sad.

Jackie was a product of her time - she was considered progressive and forward-thinking in her day. You can't judge her by today's standards any more than you can Martha Washington or Dolly Madison.

It wasn't sad. That's the 60's. Also she had a very strong New York accent that she was covering in that soft husky voice.

I usually like her features. This fell flat, not because of racism, misogyny, tastelessness, etc., but it just wasn't funny, except for the vacant looks she gave after the Jackie Kennedy bits. Now what was really funny was the way the media in the 60's tried to portray Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. Educated at the finest schools in the US and abroad, Jackie was no vacuous airhead.

That was pretty weird but I caught the meaning of this video. And that that the Obama presidency is bringing new change to Washington.

I thought the "assless dress" was a little over the top, but I liked the overall point, being: why are we so obsessed with the First Lady's clothes when she has all these other amazing attributes to celebrate? i mean an African American woman from a working class background graduating from Harvard Law School? I mean, this woman has brains! Plus, I hear she donates her time to food kitchens, and raises very well-behaved, caring children. It bothers me this obsession with her "style" -- I almost wish she would wear sweat pants and a T-shirt (sleeveless of course) just to make the point~!

Pretty tasteless showing that bottomless back of the "transparency" dress.
She could have gone for a cute mini dress or the "70's "hot pants" that would
have been within bounds of taste for a comedy show's take on the First Lady.
And why make fun of Jackie O? She was highly admired in her time so best
not to judge retroactively. I like the comments about the finishing school training
and the techno equip of the time to better understand Jackie's manner of talking and
moving. Poking fun is always crass so you have to be very careful as it's
easy to go over the top and louse it up as happened here.

HoofyPoo posters have rotten taste in comedy. They don't get Kristin Schaal, Sarah Silverman, or Demetri Martin, but love feebs like David Alan Grier and Louis CK.

Schaal was great, hope to see more of her on TDS. And of course she's utterly brilliant as Mel on Flight of the Conchords.

What's to "get"? Schaal's "joke" was tasteless, racially misogynist and crude.

The assless dress was over the line but racially misogynist? I don't know if I'd go quite that far. It was kinda gross though. And who is that girl cuz she's not funny.

Kristen is BRILLIANT in Flight of the Conchords!! in TDS... not so much...

Kristen Schaal is the least funny person I've seen in years. I keep waiting for Jon to realize how horrible she is and quit torturing us with her.

She's the only part of that show that makes me grab the DVR remote and fast forward past the entire segment. Painful...painful...painful...

Yeah, I don't really get her niche. She doesn't act like a reporter like the others on this "fake news" show or leave the set. She pretty much does bits that come across like "Weekend Update" rejects. And I find it telling how long she goes between appearances.

But everyone needs to buy Larry Wilmore's book!
