Ann Coulter's Book Sales Down

Though never exactly shy, Ann Coulter has been especially noisy in her self-promotion lately, inventing a beef with NBC News, arguing with Keith Olbermann over the meaning of a Cornell degree and taking her act on the road with Bill Maher as foil. Could it be because she's worried she's losing our attention?

Coulter's latest book, Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America, is something of a misfire by Coulterian standards. Of course, what constitutes a disappointment for Coulter would be a mega-hit for most authors; in its two months on sale, Guilty has sold 100,500 copies, according to Nielsen BookScan (a number that only reflects around 70 percent of actual sales).

I saw her books on the rack at a grocery store piled up and someone had drawn a moustache on her on the top book. Cracked me up. Way to go.

The reason that her "sales" are down is that the numerous right-wing organizations that bulk buy her books (the only reason she is a "best seller"), so that they can give them away for free at conferences, are running low on money.

Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, etc... have turned politics into a sport. their brand of "us against them", and we must "win" brand of politics have deeply divided this nation and nearly squelched true political debate. Anyone with a dissenting view has been regularly sliced and diced on a personal level as well as their political level, to the point that many just quit speaking openly. Politcal discourse isn't a soccer match. The only winners are the american people if true political discussion is allowed to take place. This is Obama's belief, and when he reaches out to the other side, it is to give them the opportunity to voice their views and beliefs, and Obama is willing to listen to them and consider them. That is the way it should work.

People like Ann treat politics as a sport only without considering the damage that does to our society, where ALL perspectives and voices should be heard. That is the freedom. Ann's hateful slamming of political ideology that doesn't match her own is vitriolic, closed-minded, and divisive.

News flash, Ann. Game over. We played it your way, and now we are falling apart. One day, when your fortune is lost, and you have to slug out a living like the rest of us, perhaps you will gain some grace and wisdom. I hope you slide into permanent obscurity, and history judges you for what you are; an opportunist who has no true understanding of political debate.

Most of Coulter's book sales were bulk buys to various radio ditto heads who gave them away in various offers. SInce they are well out of power, the GOP has less money to throw around. No more free lunch, Ms Coulter!

I do not want my criticism of Ann Coulter to hinge upon the sales of her book, especially since she sold more copies of this bad book in the first two months than Melville sold of Moby Dick in the first 20 years. It is not Coulter's book sales that are defective, it is her character.

The nasty cant of Ann Coulter's contribution to faux-conservative & fake Christian politics should decline with the presumption that their mean-spirited, sectarian collective assaults on civil society will eventually be successful. They won't and she is, in a tiny part, a reason for that failure. For every person who is attracted by her cruel wit, two people are made sick by it. This is the math of permanent minority status. As the pool of believers becomes more ruthless, cowardly and cruel the water level goes down. Eventually you end up with a stagnant-stinking pond of true-believing fools, which pretty much defines this foetid remnant of the GOP. Thanks Ann, for your small contribution to the dissolution of the party of mindless faith in primitive bigotry.

You should have read Saul Alinsky; he taught us if you take actions which produce more negative reaction to your cause than positive results, your action is counter-re­volutionar­y. I suppose you would have thought that he was spouting liberal nonsense, when he was just explaining mathematics.
