Ann Coulter's Book Sales Down

Though never exactly shy, Ann Coulter has been especially noisy in her self-promotion lately, inventing a beef with NBC News, arguing with Keith Olbermann over the meaning of a Cornell degree and taking her act on the road with Bill Maher as foil. Could it be because she's worried she's losing our attention?

Coulter's latest book, Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America, is something of a misfire by Coulterian standards. Of course, what constitutes a disappointment for Coulter would be a mega-hit for most authors; in its two months on sale, Guilty has sold 100,500 copies, according to Nielsen BookScan (a number that only reflects around 70 percent of actual sales).

It's because Coulter's books use sub-standard ink; the GOP is so depressed their tears are smearing the pages, making the books even more unreadable than they already were.

I work in a library and I consider it my patriotic duty with peaceful resistance to move the traitorous books of In*nsanity, Orally, Coulter*geist, Limp-paw, and the rest of the spew ers to other more outerland areas of the shelves, ignoring Mr. Dewey's system of organization. I guess our patrons have more discrimination in their reading because there is not much call for them. The "lost" eventually return to their place. However, Charles Darwin's Origin of the Spe-cies disappears completely. Probably stolen by the christianists who come in and request the above garbage. Do they really ever read the red print in the New Testament?

At a little over 100,000 sold, that accounts for her relatives, the hard core right-wingnut congressional delegation and governors, her right-wing faux news followers which probably includes victoria whatzername formerly of snl, and the lovely folks who populated the McC-P rallies.

The rest must be waking up from a long sleep.

My guess is that right now a lot of people are losing jobs and homes. There are probably a lot of people in unemployment line that thought they would never be there. They are probably meeting a lot of other people there who are hurting as well. That is a humbling situation. It is hard to stay arrogant, selfish and angry at people who are 'different' than you when you are there among them. It is also much easier to be a free market capitalist when you have a good paying job with health insurance. Once you lose those things, you start to think, "Hmmm..., maybe we actually are all in this together." Oh yeah, you also don't have the money or desire to buy books written by Ann Coulter.
