The comment about the different culture -- much more trusting -- in the 30's is insightful. Comparing the 2000's to the 30's is apples and oranges. Another thing is a trend in conversative minds, including in a subtle way Newsweek, is to at least gradually shift as much of the "blame" as possible away from Bush. I would only trust a person criticizing Obama is sincere if he also criticized Bush in equally-adequate measure -- and of course though Obama may not be perfect, he is in many ways the polar opposite of Bush. It was a very healing moment for the country when he was elected, in more ways than one.

This is amazing, a reporter who is reporting a clear assessment of the challenges President/we are currently dealing with in the current economic crisis. However, you see the article that the Wall Street journal did that was a total fiasco and laughable. If you blame the current President of 51 days and THE TREASURER OF 31 DAYS for the current problems of the ecoomy, yet WSJ did not blame BUSH, PAULSON, MSM, GRADING ECONOMIST, WALLSTREET, AND THE WSJ. I plan to send them an email outlining their hypocritical behavior and inability to recognize with all their expertise and education the economic devastation until late 2007-a year or more after it really started in 2006. It is comical and it explain why no one is listening to them or reading their rags. I wonder how much favor or pay they received from the Repurg party to write and publish that article.

I agree, I would rate President Obama's challenges only behind Presiden Lincoln's.

of course Obama has it worse than FDR.

here's another thing he forgot to mention: belief.

the citizens of the 30's were uneducated, and niave. a mans word was his bond. deals were made
on a handshake. there was honor among theives, and even pirates had a code of conduct.
that innocence is long gone. the last man that trusted was Walter Cronkite............

I personally think all this criticism of Obama is so premature it isn't even funny. All the talking head so-called analysts on MSM-very interesting how they now totally reveal their mediocrity and stupidity in their endless hashing and rehashing-offering of opinions etc. Most of them are clueless. We are in deep doo doo here-do they get this at all? It can't be turned on a dime. It is childish and silly to think it could.
Listen-they all should be thanking their lucky stars that this brilliant, compassionate, stellar human being has volunteered to take on this misbegotten mess and pull our collective cookies out of the fire.

FDR was an experimenter with a national purpose. So far, Obama has surrounding himself with highly ineffective people when it comes to economic matters, people who certainly do not exude either confidence or resoluteness to do the right thing, not for the Wall Street but for the nation. Still an Obama supporter but a disappointed one.

At a time of unprecedented challenges, we have been given an exceptionally smart, practical, compassionate, hard working and oratorically gifted leader. He means well for the American people and he has the smarts and the youthful vigor to deal with the situations we face. I think it will all turn out okay. God bless Barack Obama.

I think he is on the right tract too and it will indeed turn out okay. The Peanut gallery is just so much bigger an army than anyone considered. So many people, so many opinions and so much special interest finding a space in which to vent and attack us, aka; Obama Administration to save their own skins for the vile things they did to us as a nation.

An Open Letter to President Obama:

As a citizen of this country, I want to personally thank you for your grace and poise in this time of economic crisis. I want to let you know that I recognize your efforts in trying to get this country up and running. I want to let you know that I recognize the fact that you had to hit the ground running and did not have the luxury of relaxing until the day of your Inauguration but has been working since you were elected on November 4, 2008. I also appreciate the fact that you are a "thinker" that takes time to consider options and not go into automatic to appease your critics childish and immature whining for their desire for instant gratification. We have serious problems that must have serirous answers that requires politics to take a backseat on occassions. Don't let those who wage a "criticism campaign" against you gain any ground in your thought process...one day they will be forced to grow up and recognize that it took years for this country to get in this bad condition...and it will requires more years to bring it back to health. The citizens of this country are compelled to grow up and start to think as adults.

Dupree - I agree with your intelligent and thoughtful words to our President 100%. And the "criticism" campaign isn't really working - it's only part of the daily "talking papers" for the shrinking opposition party as well as those who surprisingly and suddently have all the answers to the serious crisis that this country now faces. Also, some are campaigning....

I, too, appreciate the intelligence and thoroughness of the President - and I believe that in spite of the nay-sayers, he will go down in history as one of our great leaders This country will only benefit from his leadership - and so will the rest of the world.

Wow! Great letter. I shake my head at all the negativity and stupidity that comes from the media, lobbyists and republicans. President Obama was giving a disaster that took years to make ,turned people off of the government and big business Nov. 4th. It would have to be a miracle worker to change all these things around within 4 yrs forget 100 days.

But, what he has been able to do and the media and the naysayers never give him credit for, is giving people hope during one of the worst periods of our times.
