A Message From Our Future Smart Appliance Overlords (VIDEO)

A fridge from the future has told me that only I can save its future -- and the planet's. And it's not even 8 a.m. yet. Whew. What a way to start a Friday. Check out this campaign from Avaaz.com to encourage efficiency standards in appliances (and see the video below):

Europe is one of the biggest sources of the world's climate pollution -- and experts say that half of Europe's emissions come from boilers, fridges, TVs and other energy-using products in homes and other buildings.

Strong energy efficiency standards have been proposed for these products that would massively reduce climate emissions, save money on electricity, and set a strong example of what's possible for the rest of the world. But out of sight of the public, some vested industrial interests are pushing hard to water down the proposals.

A public, worldwide outcry can still defeat the industry lobbyists, but time is short! Sign the petition below, and it will be delivered this week to EU decision-makers in Brussels.

The Mayans predicted our appliances will turn against us in December of 2012.

I tried to buy a really efficent fridge in the US and it was difficult. I could not get the exact info and the real efficent ones that you buy online from some obscure location were just to expensive and funky looking.

Also water and electricty need to cost more so consumers are forced to safe and look for solutions.

Efficient appliances are a great idea and once mass produced are not much more costly to make than regular ones, yet they save lots of energy.
