McCain To Meet With Obama's Iraq Ambassador Nominee

CNN Political Ticker:

Sen. John McCain will meet early next week with Chris Hill, President Barack Obama's nominee for ambassador to Iraq who McCain has questioned because he has no prior experience in the country, a spokeswoman told CNN.

McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan told CNN that McCain, an Arizona Republican and 2008 presidential nominee, plans to use the meeting to assess whether he thinks Hill can do the job. Buchanan said Hill requested the meeting.

This is a slap in the to all Foreign Service personnel. Chris Hill is one of the most experienced, decorated diplomats in the entire world! He is not a political hack but a career diplomat. His experience in diplomacy and international affairs is second to none. So what if he doesn't speak Arabic, does McCain speak Arabic or have any knowledge of Middle Eastern affairs? Then maybe McCain shouldn't comment on Iraq because by his own reasoning he has no experience in Iraq! Who does McCain want appointed to the position? Someone whose only experience is that they donated thousands to a political campaign like half of the U.S. ambassadors in the world?

When Bush beat ( using the term lightly) Gore, Senator Gore didn't put his disagreements with President Bush out in the media. He conceded gracefully inspite of the circumstance and then let Bush run this country (into the ground). When Senator Kerry lost in 2004, he too didn't stomp his feet and disagree with President Bush.

Why is McCain being such a spoiled rotten brat with all his tantrums. And why is the press spoiling him further?

The answer........He's a Republican.

The psychiatrist in me keeps analyzing McCain's current behavior as one of a jilted lover.

He believes by inserting himself in major policies decisions, we will ultimately see that we chose the wrong man for the job. And because he was not elected he has decided that he will become the thorn in the President's side for the next four years.

Hey, nobody's perfect...but we already know that about the president's appointees.

Should the US Ambassador to Iraq speak Arabic? Should he have Middle Eastern experience? Should he have deep background in working with the military in counterinsurgency operations?

Would two out of three "yes" answers be enough?
