Stephen E. Quick, Samantha Light Accused Of Taping Themselves Having Sex With Children

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — A couple who ran a baby-sitting service out of their home videotaped themselves performing sex acts with children, some as young as 2 months old, police said Friday.

Stephen E. Quick, 31, and Samantha Light, 25, both of Veedersburg in western Indiana, were being held on $100,000 bond in Fountain County Jail. Both faced preliminary charges of child molestation and child exploitation. Jail staff did not know whether either one had an attorney.

Police who searched the couple's home found a videotape depicting sex acts involving Quick and Light and at least four different children between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old, said Fountain County Sheriff's Deputy Bob Kemp.

"In 15 years of doing this job, it's the worst thing I've ever seen or imagined," he told WRTV. "Just horrible, just horrible It's a new low."

Police searched the couple's home after the parents of a 3-year-old girl reported that she told them Quick and Light had touched her inappropriately and photographed her at their home on Feb. 28.

Deputies seized several computers, cameras, a video camera, pornographic materials, drugs and drug paraphernalia. Several sex toys that appeared in the video were seized during a second search, police said.

Quick and Light were arrested March 5. Neither has a criminal history.

Authorities have removed the couple's daughter from their home.

I understand that many of us have to leave our children to work, but I wish we didn't need to. I wish we all had more options. I am so very glad that the Obamas have Grandma with them at home. I lived in Indiana for the past six years, and oldhippie is closer to the truth of things than you might imagine. Much of the state, particularly its rural areas are archly conservative. Those conservative values tend trend towards submission of women, the separation of the races, and no taxation--period. There is a strong language of "the right to life" throughout most of the state. In practice, this is one of the most violent and backwards places for women and children in the country.

Since we have moved here, at least one child is murdered a month by the mother's new boyfriend [including a 14 month old baby beaten to death two days ago]; two months ago a police officer was caught having sex with prostitutes at a local elementary school, coaches routinely fondle, photograph, or have sex with students; pit bulls have badly mauled a toddler and recently attacked an elderly woman causing her leg to be severed; and women are routinely attacked and beaten by their significant others. Women make $.72 to the dollar for what their male counterpart makes and that figure actually goes down if she earns a college degree. I cite these few examples to give you a sense of the comprehensive oppression of women and children in this state--it isn't just physical violence but a general, institutionalized oppression.

Events such as this and the finicial crisis, makes me rethink what crimes should be punishable by death. I dont want to my taxes to fund these peoples jail time. They take so much from society, then we have to fund the roof over their heads and their meals etc? Interesting, because just like what AiP said, I feel like there is aspects of despotism already present. Sure its not blatant, unless you compare the % of wealth owned to the % of population in this country. Numbers are hard to find on that stat, but from what Ive seen its 70% -90% of wealth to 10% of population. Money is power right? And if someone has power without money, they're assasinated. Perhaps we should study there brain to see if there are any physiological traits that make people prone to this type of behavior, just as they've found unique characteristics in the brain that are common with violent offenders.
On a slight tangent, heard on NPR the other day that a country in Europe(?) France maybe, was considering castration for sex offenders. Supposedly one offender asked for it and now he works for a charitble organization, living a life free from the temptation to commit sexual offenses. Thought that was interesting.

I can not even begin to understand the mindset and compulsion of people like these. The need and the desire must be fierce to do something this horrible to innocent little children, knowing the punishment they would face if caught. Experts do not believe that these individuals can ever be "cured", so rehabilitation is not very likely. I think that anyone who sexually assaults a child this young should receive life without parole. They have, in my opinion anyway, given up any right to every walk free in society again.

Because in our legal system, the cost of pursuing and carrying out Capital Punishment far exceeds the cost of imprisoning said individuals for the remainder of their days. Just as a practical matter, it makes more sense to sentence to life without parole.
