Bill Clinton Leaves Yucaipa Business Partnerships

Wall Street Journal:

Former President Bill Clinton has ended his high-profile business connection to his friend Ronald Burkle's Yucaipa Cos. by walking away from a final payment that was once estimated at up to $20 million.

While the former president could have claimed additional money from Yucaipa, he decided not to, said a person familiar with the matter. He apparently made the decision early this year. Early last year, people familiar with the Clinton-Yucaipa relationship had estimated that such a payment could have been as much as $20 million. However, the meltdown in world financial markets might have affected any such payout.

This story is ostensibly sympathetic to Clinton it basically lauds him for turning down the money, yet admits that he probably wasn't going to get it anyway because of the financial crisis. Either way, these people would write off a pair of socks or underwear, I don't think he's leaving any money on the table.

Remember, I believe it was Sept. 07 during the primary season, he was embarrassed because it was revealed he had hidden his money overseas in a tax shelter. He then supposedly got upset with Burkle, and was severing ties with him or something. Gotta love those patriots, huh? Hiding their money overseas, and then bragging about how much money they have so they can afford to pay more in taxes?
