A-Rod On Madonna: "She's A Great Ear To Have"

Alex Rodriguez graces the April cover of Details, kissing himself in the mirror and talking Madonna on the inside. A-Rod's ex-wife Cynthia said her husband had "an affair of the heart" with Madonna and the pair were linked together last summer.

Alex on Madonna:

"Well, we're friends...I have a lot of respect for her...She's very smart and she's passionate about everything she does...if there ever was any situation, she's a great ear to have, you know?"'

On his reluctance to name his favorite Madonna song:

"The last thing I want to do is go to every stadium and have them play that song."

More choice quotes:

"We live in a world right now where everyone's keeping score. And it doesn't stop when the games end...They've crossed over. And you have the Internet stuff, and all these phones...It's very intense."

"I was convinced I was going to play in the NBA. And my mother gives me an NBA roster and a highlighter and says, "Line out all the Dominican players you find there. I looked for 15 minutes and couldn't find one. Then she pulls out a Major League Baseball roster--over 100 Latin players. 'Okay, Mom.' Two weeks later, I was back at baseball."

"New York is one of a kind. It's made me ask all the tough questions. It's brought out the best in me. There are some things I have to work on. And that part is fun. Revealing the truth about yourself is always good."

The A-Rod hating has to stop...aren't there enough important things in the world to worry about? You all must be adolescents. Our anonymous writer says: "Read more about the Steroid User here."' Please.

Ruth drank and whored to an extent matched only to his oversized personality yet we continue to put him on a pedestal. In 1925 he injected himself with testosterone extracted from sheep testes and fell ill as a result of the attempted enhancement. (Which was euphemistically called a 'bellyache.') He also played the game in a racially segregated environment. So do we belittle his significant athetic skills and his ability to play the game? No. He saved baseball after the Black Sox scandal and played according to the rules as they existed at the time.

Examples could also be taken from other eras. Bouton and others have written about the use of pot and speed in the post-World War II era until sports began cleaning up its act during the 1980's. Imagine being young, athletic and viril in New York while accolades beyond your deserved achievements are thrown your way?

These are athletes who play a kid's game well. They are not rocket scientists. They play to get an edge over the competition and, frankly, anything that is not banned is fair game. Equipment is better, nutrition is better and physical conditioning is better then it was 20 or 30 years ago. Should we discount these advances?

Perhaps you can ruminate on this. Here is a fundamental difference between Ruth and ARod. Ruth won games. In dramatic moments he created the wave, never mind riding it. In same such instances, Rodriguez not only fails, but fails dramatically. Yankees finished 8 games out of first place last year. I remember 3 or 4 where Rodriguez errors led to the game being lost. Throw in the at bats where he could have turned the game around and those 8 games are easily attributed to the 25 million dollar man.

No one would begrudge his salary if he would just once rise to the moment. Look at his postseason record. HIs numbers may be great but they're meaningless. At least McGwire and Sosa were entertaining.

Today's NY Post is making a big deal about these A Rod pics. But actually they are pretty lame, not very good or controversial at all.
He's supposed to be making fun of his self-loving personality, but he looks too serious. Bet he does that in front of the mirror daily.
