Think Progress:

Last night on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show, Maddow asked former Sen. Chuck Hagel about former Vice President Cheney's recent claims that President Obama is making the American people "less safe" by raising the "risk to the American people of another [terrorist] attack." Hagel called Cheney's comments "ridiculous" and "folly," concluding "I'm sorry the Vice President said that":

It is a perfect World, America, just no longer the perfect nation, however Chuch Hagel will become Secretary of Defense in 2010. That President Obama is Genius tells alot. Governor Bill Richardson for the Supreme Court (1st Hispanic)!

If Republicans ever want to become a viable Party again they had better hope they follow Hagel's lead and admit the damage their mistakes have done to this country. Fortunately most Americans are not idiotic and ignorant enough to ignore what they have seen with their own eyes.

Too bad Hagel is a Republican. We are not the party of the Nanny State and government knows best. Truth to tell you libanazis can have him.

Good for him. If Hagel and moderate Republicans like him manage to wrest control of their Party away from the neo-cons and religious nutjobs, we might actually have to bother with the GOP again.

I don't think they can do it but it's good to know that not every single Republican in America is a complete freak. They were a respectable Party when I was a kid and several of our neighbors were Republicans. It was possible in those days to disagree politically and remain friends socially but that was long before Reagan, hell it was before Nixon.

Totally with you here. The typical Republican use to just be more stoic, staid, traditional than the typical Democrat. Now the GOP consists primarily of whackos like Rush Limbaugh, Anne Coulter, Victoria Jackson, Chuck Norris, Bill Oreilly, etc... all bullies and quite ignorant and self-righteous.

.... the "worse" we liberals are accused if having on our side have is Michael Moore, Al Franken, Bill Maher, and Jon Stewart - all smart guys. THANK GOD THESE last four are on OUR side!

Honestly, I wish Hagel would turn Dem or independent and just get it over with.

I've always liked and respected the guy.

Unfortunately for the Grand Obstructionist Party, they have too few Chuck Hagels.

Why doesn't these old Republican's like Cheney retire, and go play golf and eat lunch in country clubs and travel, like they used to? They hang on after they are out of office like bats in a cave.

Ztck,

Doesn't the same rule apply to Jimmy Carter as well? I know Carter is a "good man." Buy by that logic so is Cheney.

What did the Bush-Cheney administration ever do, aside from punting everything down the road for someone else to deal with?

They didn't even deal with any terrorists. They arrested a bunch of cab drivers, held them illegally for years, and called it "keeping America safe".

Heck, they didn't even catch the guy behind 9/11... and it turns out GWB's family is really great friends with the Bin Laden family. Gee... how odd that GWB never caught him...

Don't forget all the Guantanamo detainees who were Iraqi farmers denounced as terrorists by neighbors who wanted their land and the cash rewards offered for turning ANYBODY in.

I recently met a clinical psychologist and we got to talking politics. She, being a person of high IQ and common sense, is of course a Democrat. When Cheney's name came up, I said, "This may not fit into any Diagnostic and Statistical Manual category of mental disorders, but to me Dick Cheney is proof that evil exists." She replied, "Oh, no question about it - that man IS evil."

that was always known but the MSM would never report it. it is also true his brother and cousin were principals of the company in charge of the twin towers security on 911. yet try to suggest just being suspicious and the tin foil hat comments come.
