Nadya Suleman Brings First Octuplets Home To Media Scrum

LA HABRA, Calif. — Octuplet mom Nadya Suleman's newfound celebrity reached a fever pitch as she brought home the first two of her eight babies.

Scores of photographers, reporters and gawkers who had staked out her new house for hours clung to her vehicle as she arrived home late Tuesday in a homecoming reminiscent of the scenes that have surrounded Hollywood's infamous celebutantes.

Suleman was sitting with her babies in the back seat of the SUV as it went straight into the garage of her new four-bedroom, three-bath home in La Habra, about 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles, where she will raise her 14 children.

The media mob shoved and pushed, with some grabbing and riding the vehicle until the garage door closed despite being dented and nearly pulled off its tracks.

Video posted on Radaronline.com, where Suleman has been publishing a video diary, showed the SUV pulling into the garage from the inside, and screams can be heard for the photographers to get out. Laughter was audible from inside the vehicle after the garage door closed.

Suleman said on the video that she called police when she was driven into the garage.

"This was beyond anything I expected, they were completely swarming the car," she said of the paparazzi. "I was really, really worried about the safety of everybody."

Two caretakers in scrubs could be seen helping Suleman take the babies into the house after she showed them off to the camera, and Suleman's older children were shown kneeling and fawning over their baby brothers.

The unemployed, divorced mother gave birth to the octuplets nine weeks premature on Jan. 26 in Bellflower. She already had six children, ages 2 to 7.

The octuplets _ whose birth weights ranged from 1 pound, 8 ounces to 3 pounds, 4 ounces _ spent their first seven weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center. The first two babies to be discharged _ Noah and Isaiah _ are each about 5 pounds and can be bottle feed, the hospital said.

The other two girls and four boys continue gaining weight and will be released in the coming days, the hospital said.

"This is a happy moment for everyone _ the family, physicians, nurses and entire NICU staff," said Dr. Mandhir Gupta, a neonatologist at the medical center. "It is always rewarding whenever a premature infant goes home as a healthy baby."

The babies' historic births were initially met with curiosity and celebration, but a backlash against Suleman grew as the public learned that the 33-year-old mother had few means to support her brood.

In recent weeks, Suleman has been seen squabbling with her mother on Internet videos, and led tours of her new home for paparazzi. Last week, she had a televised baby shower on the "Dr. Phil" show.

Suleman said she is paying for the house _ listed for $564,900 _ with money from "opportunities" she has selected, but did not elaborate.

This abomination of a "parent" should be required to pay her hospital bill now that she is raking in the money, seems to me that she's no longer eligible for Medi-Cal. Not only that one has to wonder how in the world she was able to get a workers comp settlement for back pain and then go on to carry numerous multiple births with seeming ease! What's wrong, people! Someone needs to hold her accountable for her actions!!! I think having her charged with fraud for the back "injury" is a good place to start.

Now, this was an accident waiting to happen. I had a feeling something like this would happen when I saw the nurses on Docca Feel. I've worked with nurses and know their dedication and lack of patience when dealing with fools. Their primary job is ensuring the safety of their patients and in this case those babies were their patients. It would have been unconsionable and unthinkable for them to NOT report this whack job whenever she screws up. She may think she can hire other nurses, but if they are professionals - and they should be given the circumstances - then they, too, will advocate for the babies. Likely NS will hire non-professionals so she won't have to deal with any scrutiny. Which should give CPS reason to remove ALL of her children.
It is appalling that Dr. Phil has taken part by encouraging his viewers to financially support NS's fantasy life and subsequent purchase of a questionably adequate house for 14 children plus adults. She will probably crack under the pressure and he will have played a huge role in her having those poor babies (and other children) around her when it happens. Let's hope sanity prevails and the children are secured away elsewhere before that happens.

I would also like to know why no one has raked her over the coals for the part she played in bankrupting her mother. Not to mention how much she used her mother with her first six children..­.

As much as she tries to act like all this attention is bothering her, I can't help but think that deep down it's what she really wants. I mean, if this Angelina Jolie wanna-be would have used the money she spends on plastic surgery on her kids, there would be no need for donations. I cannot in good conscience donate a nickel to plump this deranged womans kisser any more than it already is.

It is a truly sad day when the only way for someone like Nadya can get the attention she craves is to have babies. Most women who become famous truly have something to offer, beauty, have produced great writing, or a great singing voice, the ability to write songs, as a dancer, an actor, a writer of poetry, as an anchorwoman, a woman of congress, as a physician, or a professor at a reputable university, a columnist and so on. They offer something of themselves in a great way and contribute much to the world. Some as leaders who have achieved great things,

Nadya has not a single quality that great women must possess. She's not a pretty woman. In fact, I would say she is quite unattractive, is not articulate, charismatic, dynamic or much of an intellectual and quite frankly acts like a low class high school drop out..

When the dust settles and when all is said and done, no one's going to be interested in someone that just takes, and takes and takes and gives nothing back to the world. People will forget you and your babies in the not-to-distant future. If you want more attention, you better get pregnant again and again and again because quite frankly you don't have the talent to do much of anything else. Not even the ability to parent any of the offspring you feel so compelled to push out of your body.

Seriously speaking, Nadya appears to have Munschen Syndrome by Proxy, DID and OCD. If not treated she will become pregnant again and again. Still at this juncture how is she going to cope when the Angels leave (and they will leave in a few months). How is she going to cope with the stresses of 14 screaming offspring on a daily basis when she is clearing mentally ill, single and with no real or honest source of income?

Thank you for the update, it's good to know she's under observation and being reprimanded accordingly. Whether or not she follows the nurses and hospital's instruction remains to be seen. She's so delusional, I get the impression she has no idea how delicate those little preemies really are and how much is involved in keeping them alive and breathing. She needs to concentrate on their health first and foremost and forget everything else. Forget the media, forget the interviewing, forget the manicures, forget Starbucks, forget shopping, and just keep the babies environment as clean and germ-free as possible until their chances of survival increase.

This woman's behavior when she exposed her delicate little infants to the media crowd INSIDE HER HOME clearly indicates she is not normal & has no common sense. Everyone in the house is wearing shoes, tracking in germs galore - & she places her babies infant carriers ON THE FLOOR where the germ level is the highest! Those frail preemies have been living in a sterile, antiseptic environment, carefully monitored, precariously grown into 5 pounds, only to be thrust into the germ factory!

That she left the babies ALONE on the floor, ran upstairs to grab a kid with curly hair & was giggling and whispering inanely at the video photographer , and allowing her other children to touch and breathe all over the babies and poke at them CONSTANTLY horrified me no end. The nurses must be having conniptions dealing w/ Nadya's stupidity, lack of judgment and maturity.

The nurses NEED to put their foot down, kick out everyone, INSIST on keeping the older children away from the babies so they at least have a chance of survival. THEN the nurses need to sit Nadya down, without any interruptions and have a serious conversation explaining all possible health issues the preemies are being exposed to with her insane behavior.

Nadya does not have the mental capacity to raise one preemie, much less a whole litter of them.

Well, she's been warned by the hospital AND the nurses that she will not receive any more of the babies until she cleans the house out of people, cameramen, and everybody else that traipsed through there.

According to the hospital staff and to Nadya's own admittance, she was severely "reprimanded" for the wild circus that occured while also putting the infants in danger.

It's surprising and disappointing to see that Nadya was out shopping again (J.C. Penney this time) the day after the first two octuplets came home. She was so desperate to have those babies ("Those embryos were MY CHILDREN!") that she risked her life and theirs in a high-risk pregnancy. It would seem that now that two of the precious babies are in her home at last, she'd want to start staying there with them. Not.

After that homecoming I don't see how anyone could have any doubts about Suleman's ability to parent. She is responsible for what happened both outside and inside the house. To allow her newborns to be tramatized by the media in that way is blatant child abuse. She seems to lack even the most basic instincts of a mother to protect her young. Her sociopathic insensitivity and opportunism has already proved to be more than Angels in Waiting can mitigate. The public needs to put a stop to this cruelty by demanding CPS intervention and firing off some nasty communications to the media outlets and personalities that are facilitating it. We are allowing child abuse to be served up to us as entertainment.
