Ever wonder about the veracity of those "Cash For Gold" commercials?
Good Morning America did too, and so they decided to investigate. They found that, perhaps not surprisingly, the companies don't offer customers the full value for their gold jewelry.
The show sent gold jewelry valued at $350, to three companies: Cash4gold, the industry pioneer, and two other mail-in companies, Dollars 4 Gold and Get Gold Cash.
Cash4Gold, which claims it has conducted more than 700,000 transactions since it was founded in 2007 and employs more than 300 people, offered just $66.07 for the gold. It has a "D" rating with the Better Business Bureau.
Get Gold Cash sent a check for $206 and later raised its offer to $275, while Dollars 4 Gold offered $89.71.WATCH:
