Jindal Defending Speech

WASHINGTON — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal again found himself carrying the Republican mantle opposite a primetime appearance from President Barack Obama on Tuesday, saying Republicans must be ready to defy the president when they disagree with his policies. He also joked about his widely panned response to Obama's address to Congress last month.

"We are now in the position of being the loyal opposition," Jindal said at a Republican congressional fundraising dinner that only by coincidence fell on the same night as Obama's news conference. "The right question to ask is not if we want the president to fail or succeed, but whether we want America to succeed."

However, Jindal also argued that it's okay for Republicans to want President Obama to fail if they think he's jeopardizing the country.

CNN described the argument as a "spirited defense" of those who, like Rush Limbaugh, say they want Obama to fail.

Jindal described the premise of the question -- "Do you want the president to fail?" -- as the "latest gotcha game" being perpetrated by Democrats against Republicans.

"Make no mistake: Anything other than an immediate and compliant, 'Why no sir, I don't want the president to fail,' is treated as some sort of act of treason, civil disobedience or political obstructionism," Jindal said at a political fundraiser attended by 1,200 people. "This is political correctness run amok."

Since conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said that he hoped that Obama would fail, Republicans have been pressed by Democrats and the media about Limbaugh's comments.

Jindal ... told the Republican audience he would "not be brow beaten on this, and I will not kowtow to their correctness."

"My answer to the question is very simple: 'Do you want the president to fail?' It depends on what he is trying to do."

Saying "the time for talking about the past is over," Jindal said Republicans have begun to find their voice after back-to-back elections losses _ motivated by what he called historic Democratic spending excess.

Jindal is widely considered a potential 2012 GOP presidential candidate, but his televised response to Obama's speech at the Capitol last month was widely panned. Some compared his delivery to the late children's television host Mister Rogers and said the address could hurt Jindal's national potential.

At Tuesday's $2,500-per-plate dinner _ which President George W. Bush headlined last year _ Jindal opened his speech by poking fun of himself. He threatened to deliver a reprise of the earlier performance and then jokingly compared it to torture.

"They're not allowed to show my speech at Gitmo anymore," he said. "They've banned that."

The National Republican Congressional Committee, which works to get Republicans elected to Congress, said it raised more than $6 million at the event.

Governor Jindal is simply another not-ready-for-prime-time Republican on his way to a Fundamentalist convention in Sarah Palin's high-school gymnasium. No ideas, nonsensical rhetoric, unholy alliances with a predator class and riding on the tails of a disgraced ex-president and his failed administration.

Rush Limbaugh is correct, for the Republican cause total economic meltdown is the only hope, unless of course one considers the possibility of reflection, reconsideration and renewal... or in Governor Jindal's case exorcism. We'll see...

How can Jindal open his mouth or show is face when New Orleans and the surrounding area is still decimated by Katrina? Clean up your own house before you dare to give your opinions for the salvation of the rest of the country Mr. Jindal!!!!

Just keeping talking, Bobby Jindal. You've clearly shown for a second time, that if you happen to become the front runner, against President Obama, in 2012; Obama probably should start preparing a re-election victory speech, should he choose to run again. Jindal's comments continue to highlight just how out of touch the Republican party's viewpoints are, with most of America's. How can you want America to succeed, but for President Obama to fail? And how exactly would that happen? President Obama's, and America's successes are interlinked. Jindal needs to understand, that agreeing with President Obama, doesn't mean you're kotowing to him, and it's not unpatriotic, to have strong differences of opinion, to his policies and actions. ( Although this rule didn't seem to apply to George W. Bush, though). It's one thing to have disagreements with President Obama's policies; but basically hoping for the man's downfall is another. And that's what the Repubs want. But they'll soon see what having this sort of mentality will get them come 2010, and 2012. It won't be more seats in Congress, or the White House, that's for sure. So just keep on talking, Repubs! You're only making it easier for the Dems to continue dominating you, in the upcoming elections!

GET RID OF JINDAL- YOU HAVE THE POWER TO DO SO!!!!!
Start a recall campaign!!! Citizen's of Louisana you can change this nonsense. Your govenor is not working on your behalf. Get someone in office who cares about you!

email or call Jindal:

www.gov.state.la.us

900 N 3rd St # 4
Baton Rouge, LA 70802
(225) 342-7015

Flood his office with emails and letters and tell him to put up or shut up!!!

Democrats loose when they don't pay attention! This nonsense is just diversionary tactics!
While everyone is carrying on about this idiotic behavior- the Republican extremists are raising money to purchase more "rigged" electronic voting machines.
Believe me unless you hold the governor's office to accountability -they will be using the stimulus funds to line their own pockets!!

Remember these people are YOUR servants and if they are not doing what's best for you---KICK THEM OUT!

This web site is definitely full of left-wing Liberal hatred. If individuals posting to this site would do some research they would find that Governor Jindal has more intelligence in his little finger than Obama has in his entire body. Research his background and learn that he has cut costs and improved management in all the positions he has held -- Louisiana and at the Federal level (OMB). Obama on the other hand is nothing but a Community Organizer, now at the Federal level and has no idea what he is doing. His little staged town hall meetings, acceptance of emails from "the citizens" and continued campaigning is strictly a cover-up for a lack of governing ability.

Me neither... I read posts by right wingers who swallow all the talking points and wonder how they figure it makes sense. Their only strategy is to belittle without making any sense.

That's the same thing that people like you said about FDR. I think keeping the people involved in their government after the election is a good thing. Bush thrived for a while by keeping people in the dark, We all see how well secret government worked. "Sunlight is the great disinfectant." If there is anything that Washington needs it's a cleaning.

The real problem for Republicans is that you can't cut it. In the light of day the GOP's ideas show themselves to be tired, impotent and tied to a right-wing base that doesn't give a damn about other people liberty only their power. Can get away with that in the daylight. The unholy alliance of corporate greed and Fundamentalist bigotry is broken. To quote George Smiley: "You're gonna need a whole new circus."

Clearly, Jindal is far more intelligent than Obama. Why, Obama doesn't believe human beings actually lived at the same time as dinosaurs. Obama actually believes the Earth is older than 6000 years. Jindal, on the other hand, is absolutely sure it is no older than 6000 years. Jindal knows that because God himself told Jindal. Obama, being a card-carrying Muslim and and atheist (at the same time, mind you), couldn't possibly know that. Jindal is a mastermind. He is more intelligent than all the climate scientists put together in the entire world. Katrina proved that. Indeed, Jindal knows that volcano monitoring is a waste of brain space, money and anyone's attention.

Jindal is so incredibly smart he should indeed run for president in 2012. Please run his campaign. I want him, Palin and Bachmann from MN to run. I want the entire world to see exactly how 'intelligent' they really are.

Interesting that such an intelligent man believes in exorcism and doesn't know that monitoring volcanoes in the US is important. What he has in intellect is over shadowed by his complete lack of common sense, honesty and religious fanaticism.

Actually Jindal was one of the PRIMARY architects of the Medicare Drug Plan while at CMS (formerly HCFA) WWW.CMS.GOV.

The bill that has bankrupted many seniors and caused many a financial hardship for medication recipients across the US.

Google this and then understand why Gov. Jindal is receiving an estimated $10M in compensation annually for life, from who you say.........DRUG LOBBYIST. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Jindal

What's wrong with our country is that our citizens do not do enough research prior to posting. Have we not learned that the Internet isn't always accurate and does not fully account for lack of knowledge. You can also do a Freedom of information Act request in order to secure this information as well. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/foia/

The Republicans and their talk radio allies are not behaving like a loyal opposition, they are behaving like seditionists and I'm surprised no one in the media has called them on it.

What a price Jindal, Palin and Steele have paid to be the GOP's token answer to the Left's diversity.

Let's stop insulting the memory of Mr. Rogers, he was a compassionate man who cared about others.

It's amazing to watch the GOP continue to implode every day. Jindal went from future leader to court jester a few weeks ago, and almost everything he now says carries a bubble-headed lightness as makes us think of Kenneth on 30 rock whenever we see him. But, unfortunately there is a meanness and blatant double standard on his part and the rest of ones who publicly wish for Obama to fail.

I mean think about this - they want the president of the United States to FAIL! The GOP wants our president to FAIL! They HOPE he fails. Obama is encouraging us to hope for the future, to hope for things to get better. The GOP is hoping for failure.

Your first mistake is in listening to Rush Limbaugh, who panders to illiterate uneducated morons like yourself, whipping you up into a frenzy with very little regard for actual "fact". You and the rest of your ilk are pathetic.

Aw Piyush "Booby" Jindal..... even with some time since your disastrous "historical" response to Pres. Obama's speech to Congress, and probably you had some "tutor/mentoring" (from God only knows where or by whom), you're STILL BIZARRE and CREEPY.

Here is my prediction for you Gov. Piyush 'Bobby' Jindal. YOU are ANOTHER GO-NOPERs who WILL NEVER work at the White House, unless you work as an intern..... oh wait, you're too old for that. Guess that's out.

I say fire all of your handlers, you're wasting your money. Stop letting the other GO-NOPERs make you think that you have a shot at living in the White House, and lurking out of some creepy corridor to "throw" one of your scary speeches out at us. Got it?

My special needs class watched the entire Leno show and thought that the President was quite funny. Their main response was "Yeah!! He's just like us- like us- WE LIKE HIM!
They laughed, because they have the wonderful quality of not taking themselves too seriously--you can learn from them!

As one of many Americans who had to listen for seven years, and be accused of hating America, wanting the troops in Iraq to fail, wanting Bush to fail, etc. I can barely stomach this hypocrisy and stupidity. All of a sudden it is all good and cool to wish for the President and therefore, America, to fail. The Republicans care nothing for the people of this country, unless they are filthy rich, and care only about getting themselves re-elected. I pray that Americans are smart enough to see these crass idiots for what they are, and never put them in office again.

Republicans keep getting into office through fear: fear that someone will take away my money, fear that gays will get married (and nobody will blow my husband and I'll have to start doing it), fear of abortions (but not one ounce of help for children), fear of brown people. As long as there are puny racists, there will be a Republican party.

And again why should we care what this and the other retards are doing? They could listen, analyze, and learn but that would probably fly in the face their ideological beliefs. They have their mantras and won't be changed by the facts.
