Democrats Want To Cut Down Obama's Budget

Alarmed by rising deficit predictions, Congressional Democrats prepared Tuesday to pare spending in President Obama's budget and limit some middle-class tax cuts even as Republicans stepped up their criticism of the plan as irresponsible.

The draft unveiled Tuesday by Senate Democrats reflected significant changes to Mr. Obama's proposal. It drops his appeal to set aside money for future bank bailouts, provides only a temporary fix for a mandatory income tax increasingly hitting the middle class and leaves open-ended the handling of major health care and energy initiatives. Administration officials sought to play down any differences, saying they were satisfied with the emerging plans.

January 2, 2009 the budget deficit was already 1.7 trillion dollars and that didn't include the cost of both wars because the Bush administration never included the cost of war in there budget. So now that we are spending money on America we have to watch our nickels and dimes. We can rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan but we can't rebuild America.

Congress think long and hard on how you plan to cut benefits to the American people if you expect to have a job after your next election.

Amazing how short the memory of congress is. Lets recap shall we. In November 2006 the people was disappointed with the governance of the republican party in both the house and senate as well as the White House. We as a people voted over half the republicans out of office and a third out of the Senate. The result was a majority in the house and just under half in the senate. We wanted change in leadership. To bring George Bush to heal. The republicans used whatever control they had left to block progression and the White House continued its destructive path. in 2008, this time because the republican were unrepentant of their misuse of power we removed nearly all of them from the house and senate. It is obvious the republicans still have not learned in two years the people will remember and decide. We voted in, by an overwhelming majority, a democratic President and gave him a democratic congress.

Now, what have we seen in just three months. The republicans still haven't learned - so be it. Obstructionist have not place in our system. The democrats on the other hand, instead of adhering to the will of the people now want to exercise independence from the agenda we overwhelmingly support as a people that our now President offered. That is not what they were put there for.

If you voted for Obama, you voted to control health costs and for universal care. You also voted for an aggressive approach to achieving energy independence, not only to stop climate change but also to decrease costs and to make the nation secure.

What the Senate is doing to mess up Obama's middle-class tax cuts is also idiotic. If we do not get the tax cuts Obama promised, all Democrats, including Conservadems, are going to justifiably get voted out of office. Obama currently has the potential to be a great President. He has the vision to make fundamental changes to the way we do business and treat others. All of this will be wasted if we do not get the CHANGE we just voted in.

Conservadems actually have the power to bring down the Obama presidency by failing to support the campaign promises that got him into office. It would be ironic if Democrats screwed the country worse than Bush.

It is now up to all of us to make sure we get the CHANGE we just voted in. Please write your Senators immediately saying you think the revised Senate version of the budget is a disaster. Tell them you did not vote for half-assed fixes, and a "no" response is even less acceptable.

President Obama has said repeatedly that adjustments and changes will be ongoing and that he will work with others who are making good faith efforts to find solutions. This would include the so-called conservadems, or blue dogs, as they are at least involved in putting forth ideas.

By contrast, the republican model is to let the government and any number of industries fail, and hope that the market will magically find a remedy for everything. They want to 'bleed the beast' - which by
extension just so happens to include our pension funds, 401ks, and everything else that people of good faith in a civil society have invested in. As a result, the only sane thing we can do is to continue to vote against them until they come to their senses, which I hope is soon.

This is the group of Dems that always caves in to the touchstone words of the righties: "soshulist, librul, tax and spend," etc. They always cave in when it comes to finally being able to get any sort of progressive reforms. Instead of going back to their conservative districts and EXPLAINING to the people door to door, one on one (if they have to--the way Obama does) that these are just catch phrases--they just run for cover.

Instead of doing this obstructing, these guys should be out pounding the pavement, like Obama, and appearing at town halls in their districts and educating the people as to the fallacy of the neocon right wing propaganda agenda. They should be explaining to their conservative Dem constituents that they have been being used by a fat cat neocon machine who couldn't care less about them.
