NEW YORK — Dennis Quaid is lined up to play former President Clinton with Julianne Moore as Hillary Clinton for a movie, "The Special Relationship," that HBO is working on.

The special relationship is between Clinton and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Michael Sheen is set to play Blair. It would be the third movie for which Sheen has portrayed the British politician, along with "The Queen" and "The Deal." Sheen was also in "Frost/Nixon," written by Peter Morgan. Morgan will also write "The Special Relationship."

Spokeswoman Tobe Becker says HBO hasn't fully given the green light to the film, but is also working out a co-production deal with the BBC.

I can't watch this.
Mainly because I find it awkward to watch shows or movies about people who are still so alive and well, and still in the news. It's not like the Clintons are so yesterday (although Dennis Quaid IS), or have one foot in the grave. They don't need a movie made about their life, as they can describe it themselves.

Same reason I couldn't watch Helen Mirren in The Queen, Angela Basset in Tina Turner's story, and a host of other movies made about people who are still alive. It's just odd.

FYI Elizabeth Taylor sued when they were going to make a movie of her life and I believe she won the lawsuit based on the fact that she was still alive and her life was her own intellectual property.

They did end up making a TV movie, starring Sherilyn Fenn as Ms. Taylor.

I thought Angela Basset was not very good in the Tina Turner story but that Helen Mirren was excellent as Queen Elizabeth. Maybe because we don't really know the Queen very well, that any performance of her would be accepted.

SNL's Daryl Hammond and Amy Pohler do the best Bill and Hillary.
I'll still want to see it as HBO constantly delivers the best original programming.

Think Nicole Kidman as Virginia Wolfe...or Charlize Theron as "Monster"... make up will do the trick...Quaid as BillC? nope...If his brother Randy was a few years younger..I could definitely see him as Bill.. (remember...those brother are from Texas...I know..different southern accent..but..still southern)

I see your point and agree. The Charlize Theron change was astonishing.

What would be the thematic point of such a movie, given the director, or the possible backdrop to the production? This director Peter Morgan did a total fabrication of events and personalities when he did "The Queen". Again, he waits a decade or so for some people's memories and the media glare to fade a bit on certain events, then he attempts a rewrite of history -- is this Morgan's ongoing M.O.?

If it was to be a meaningful or truth-telling exercise, maybe they could examine that type of a relationship between this two particular individuals (Clinton - Blair) as a classic case of friendship for expediency and how that doesn't really work out too well in the long run. Blair sucked up to Bush faster than a speck of dust into a vacuum.....Clinton and Blair were both proclaimed in their hey-day as "policy wonks" but actually they cared far less about policy per se rather than how the policy might burnish their ascent or legacy. Blair and Clinton get an ongoing free pass for their respective participation and enablement of the Iraq War, when in fact they're just as if not more culpable than Bush being supposedly more intelligent and articulate. But again, this director does not have any artistic track record of doing any type of truth-telling that might offend some. Expect the Disney version of history.

I see David Frum as Linda

Maybe its just for the acting because neither one of them resemble their counterparts. I like both of them, though.

It's not necessary that an actor be a virtual clone of the real person portrayed but it's a lot easier when there is even a modcum of a resemblance.

BAD CASTING

It should have been David Morse and Annette Benning.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:22 AM on 03/25/2009

Annette Benning? But she already played that type of a woman in "The Grifters" so it wouldn't be much of an acting stretch for her, would it?

Another lie from a Clinton hater. What eveidence do you have to back up that statement and if you have none then why do you base your opinions on lies.

From this picture, it looks like Moore's facial features are actually closer to Bill's (flatish face, eyes, face shape) and Quaid is closer to Hillary (nose, cheekbones, grin):
