UPDATE 3/26: Cantor defends attending the Britney concert

There was more than one whip at last night's Britney Spears concert in Washington DC.

GOP aides confirmed to the Huffington Post that House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) attended the pop concert at the Verizon Center, where Britney appeared on stage brandishing a leather lash.

One House GOP leadership aide said Cantor went at the request of a fundraiser. "If suffering through a Britney Spears concert will raise one more dime to help Republicans take back the House, then I'm glad Cantor's willing to do it."

A House Democratic aide shot back, "Looks like Eric Cantor's not that innocent."

The gossip blog Wonkette first reported the Cantor sighting on Wednesday afternoon, and subsequently ran a quote from Cantor's office alleging that Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu was also in attendance.

But Landrieu's office denies the charge. An aide insists that numerous witnesses can place the Senator at Matchbox during that time (a bar/restaurant that is suspiciously close to where Spears performed).

But the aide held firm. "I can assure you she was not at the concert," he said. Nor did she attend the show after the meal. Instead, she went to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee's annual spring reception, he said.

UPDATE: Via Perez Hilton, some video of the concert last night (Spears randomly yells "Merry Christmas!" at one point):

hahahahahaha~ I just would have LOVED Britney to have given Obama a shout out!!!! I feel so much better knowing that my president has excellent taste in music! lol Yea I have been laughing so hard at Steele and crazy Michelle Bachman, and all those other mentally touched republicans. Eric almost seemed serious at times but no longer.........add this all in with their famous budget with no numbers and well it looks like we found the LOSER combination. My 6th grader said she wouldnt even go to that concert if she was paid.......hmmmmm. Skipping the Presidents address seems a little irresponsible to me......but then again when have the republicans ever cared about anything but themselves.

Yeah all the stupid Republicans say oh Obama is not doing his job, his job performance is aweful, or if Obama tries to take a quick break the Republicans jump down his throat. This is like when Obama got so much flack for appearing on The tonight Show with Jay Leno. Give Obama a break. At least Obama can speak clearly, dosen't stumble on his words and speaks intellegintly. I think Cantor needs to get his butt back to D.C. and take his job serious and quit taking a break. If he was serious about his job he would have listened to Obama's speech rather than publically talk about the speech which he obvisously has no clue about since he was at a Britney Spears concert. I smell a huge sex scandel comming around for the Republicans lol!!! The Republicans know they are clearly falling apart and they have no clue what else to do then to tear someone else politics apart. The Republicans are history for at the minimum 8 yrs but probably more like 16 yrs. Obama will get this economy turned around and is doing an excellent job!

Poor broke Republicans might have to hire Brit as their "Family Values Role Model" spokesperson. I hear Octomom wants too high a price.

Wow, it must be a really slow news day - who cares what Eric Cantor does?

Why even discuss what Eric Cantor does or doesn't do? He is completely and utterly irrelevant. Any attention placed on him only gives him a chance to squawk the empty rhetoric of the republican'ts. Let us know when he does something relevant like cares more about all of our citizen’s wellbeing more than corporate profits. Otherwise, who gives a?

Good example of a great father. Even if he didn't want to watch President Obama, it shows where his priorities are -- Britney Spears & Donor or wife and children?! Those Republicans certainly have the market cornered regarding family values!

Britney Spears ? What a 'role' model ' for Cantors kids NOT. Not many folks care about Cantors' concert. We have much bigger fish to fry. Pres. Obama is known as a good family man. He just took a few days off to be with Michele & the kids and skipped a big wig political dinner. Good for him. . I'll wager a bet that in 2 years-things will be improved and we will be going in a much better direction, that with Bush / Cheney. Reagan / Bush legacy:? It's Deregulation of banks & Wall ST- So the fat cats could screw the country - all to make his' base ' even wealthier. Oh I forgot- We did get the ' TRICKLE DOWN ' CRUMBS ! Its time to give the middle class a fair shake- for a change.
Bush / Cheney / Rove need to testify under oath. WE NEED TO HEAR THE TRUTH .SO many are misinformed-low information voters. This election proved voters are not falling for the same old tricks .

Well, the votes come from Dupedom embracing the whole Country, but centered in the mountain West and in Dixie, where are found the evangelical zealots and the Dupes. Fox loves 'em all, and does its part to keep them whipped up in a frenzy of hatred against liberals and of devotion to the plutocrats in the name of Jesus.

Janus you are a person I agree with whole heartedly . And someone should tell Cantor that if Obama's changes even do half of what he wants the Republicans will never regain the House.
