What's Your Reaction?
Obama

For the first time since his inauguration, President Barack Obama is flexing his electoral muscle, urging supporters to organize and vote for New York Democratic congressional candidate Scott Murphy.

In an email signed by the president and sent to DNC and Organize for America activists in and around the state's 20th congressional district, Obama touts Murphy as having the "kind of experience and background" needed in Washington.

"Today I'm announcing my support for Scott Murphy, candidate for New York's 20th Congressional District," the email reads. "He's created jobs by building and growing small businesses while bringing people together to address difficult challenges. He supports the economic recovery plan we've put in place, and I know we can count on him as an ally for change.

"To restore our economy and build a foundation for lasting prosperity, I'll need Scott's help. This week, Scott needs yours. Sign up and pitch in to elect Scott Murphy to Congress."

The email, which should reach more than 50,000 people, represents the first time the president has extended his vast political capital in an electoral context. Obama offered limited assistance for Jim Martin's runoff election in Georgia, but that took place during the presidential transition. Prior to the Murphy email, Organize for America has utilized its expansive list of followers to organize in support of the president's stimulus package and budget.

Murphy, a longtime Democratic hand and businessman, is in a tight race with Republican candidate Jim Tedisco to take over the seat vacated by New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. The special election in the Republican-leaning district will take place on Tuesday, March 31. Polls show the Murphy campaign closing the gap after trailing by more than double digits just weeks ago.

Hoping to Murphy candidate over the finish line, the Democratic National Committee is also planning on donating $5,000 to his campaign, a source with knowledge of the race told the Huffington Post.

Below is the Obama email in full.

I'm writing to you now because you have the opportunity to make a big impact on my efforts to bring about a lasting economic recovery.

Today I'm announcing my support for Scott Murphy, candidate for New York's 20th Congressional District.

On Tuesday, March 31st -- just one week away -- voters will have the chance to send Scott to Congress, where we'll work together to get our economy moving in the right direction.

Volunteer this week and help in the final push to send Scott Murphy to Congress.

Scott has the kind of experience and background we desperately need right now in Washington.

He's created jobs by building and growing small businesses while bringing people together to address difficult challenges. He supports the economic recovery plan we've put in place, and I know we can count on him as an ally for change.

To restore our economy and build a foundation for lasting prosperity, I'll need Scott's help. This week, Scott needs yours.

Sign up and pitch in to elect Scott Murphy to Congress:

What you do now can make all the difference as we work in the coming weeks and months to lead our country in a new direction.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

Obama said that Jim Tedisco is the best choice for congress. Let's see if the times union does it's job and asks Murphy about this.

Scott Murphy for Congress truth about bonuses

Scott Murphy for Congress tax problem

Scott Murphy for Congress against death penalty

If you have a few bucks left after the last eight years, click on the link to Scott Murphy's site above & give the man $20 or $50. Deny the GOP this tiny glimmer of hope that their braindead notions that tax cuts & less regulation are the only way out of the mess that tax-cuts & less regulation put us into. An angel won't get it's wings, but it will mean one less Republican on cable news spouting this hooey.
Money well spent.

You Liberal New Yorker's go ahead and just keep electing Democrats. You will eventually love Socialism. Ethyl, don't you realize that plenty of regulations existed to prevent the mortgage meltdown, but Democrats and ACORN forced banks to make loans! Have you not seen the YouTube video of the 2004 Congressional Hearings in which Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Gregory Weeks and other Democrats castigated the auditor of Fannie Mae. Paste the url below into your browser and become enlightened.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs

If that evidence doesn't convince you then look at the Canadian produced video showing the timeline of the housing debacle at:

I realize Liberals hate facts, but you do some investigation!

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves." Since 1937 this district has had a Repo rep exactly 3 times, prior
to Demo Kirsten Gillibrand. Only 3 of 29 NY districts are now represented
by Repos. That being said, the 'Fightin' 20th' is more of an *independent*
district. Tedisco still has a slight lead, but Murphy is trending up.
Let's hope that NYers continue the tradition in the North East
of booting out Repos. You can do it!

This news website is nothing but a bunch of America bashing haters. When the whole country is on welfare maybe the libs will be happy. The $$ has to come from somewhere. Tax paying WORKERS.
When businesses pick up and leave this melting pot, watered down country do we all get to live on the Obama plan. Oh, he'll just print some money!

Obama answering questions on line is a joke. Good gimmick!!
Pelosi and Reid are running this country. Obama is just a poster boy and the mouth peice for the Left agenda.

I think his pen is almost outta ink.

I wouldn't give 1/4 a cent to Murphey.

Seriously, you made my day with this riotously funny comment.
Sadly, it was "laughing AT you" sort of thing, rather than the "laughing with you" sort of thing.

Good move support those who support your budget. I dont expec to see you lift a finger to help any of those COnservadems when their seat comes up. Let them lose it even to a republican its what they deserve. I know the unions are gearing up for them they think that just because they are democrats they are a shoe in just wait and see. The unions support Obama's budget dont let anyone fool you but it was boots on the ground in Ohio Indiana that turn these states blue.

If Obama puts his name on the line for this guy he's a good guy. I'll be sending him $10

Carol

The link below is a website to the congressional voting record:

I didn't know Evan Bayh voted for free trade agreements so often. Is Indiana a agriculture state? We must rid ourselves of these career politicians. They are truly selling the American people out.

I don't understand why President Obama is taking such an active role in this house race, considering that shortly after he was elected we had a chance to seat a 59th Democratic Senator from the state of Georgia and could barely get Obama to acknowledge it was going on. I think the reasoning was that he didn't want to seem hyperpartisan, but he could have used another consenting voice in the Senate. Now, if the Republican prevails in the NY race, the conservative punditocracy is pounce and say that Obama is losing his mojo.

I think that's exactly it though. Perhaps I'm totally off base but I feel as if Obama thought all the good will he had would allow him for at least a few months to do whatever he pleased without Republicans standing in the way. I think he misjudged that, and misjudged even members of his own party from doing what he wants, and that's why he stayed out of the Georgia Senate race.

So I think that is why he now realizes the time has come to get as many like minded people as he in office to help him get his policies passed, since the existing people in office are simply ignoring the overwhelming support and electoral victory he achieved.

Hey! Mr. President:

If you are in the mood to apply some Political arm-twisting; why don't you grab hold of ex-Senator Norm Coleman, up in Minnesota, and have that Republican miscreant quit jerking-around Senator-Elect Al Franken and get Senator-Elect Franken seated and sworn-in to his seat in Senate.

There's nothing Coleman and the Republican Senatorial Gangsters haven't done to keep Senator-Elect Franken from assuming his responsibilities. Nothing. They have slush-funded Coleman to find and "Prepare" witnesses and done some loathsomely underhanded legal maneuvering to keep their Brain Dead, Bad Faith, Election Contest from being unplugged from life support.

How does, ... Motioning The Court to allow them some latitude which would have The Court REVERSE a decision that The Court Handed-down that the Pages run-through the copier ain't cooled-off yet!
The Republican Obstructionism, in Minnesota, kept the Senate Seat vacant and allowed the GOP to retain power over the Senate.

Get Governor Pawlenty or Secy of State Ritchie on the BlueBerry and give them a wakeup call.
You'll have 59 Senators in your pocket after you do.

Maybe obama didn't step in on this election cuz someone (not saying franken) "created" some "ballots" that were mysteriously "found" giving franken enough votes to force a recount. Sounds suspicious to me. I don't blame him for fighting it cuz Norm Coleman won that election. Like it or not. I hope that truth prevails in court.

GOOD MOVE Mr. President.!

You need to start using political clout like this in more situations, For instance Sen Conrad should be told, in no uncertain terms, that he is not the President and the voters did not send you to the White House to be undermined by his presumtousness. And if he doese not honor the hard earned votes that the you received to be eleceted President of the United States.

And with all the respect that is due you Sen Conrad, 51 million people did not elect you to be a KING MAKER over our new president , when you did barely anything for eight years to stop the malfesences of the Bush administration, except basically run your mouth with no effect.
Or Sen. Conrad, we will start a campaign against your re election.

News Flash!
Disregaurd my disdain for Sen Conrad. I just heard on the ED SHULTZ show, that the senator had a change of heart and is now more willing to embrace President Obama's buget with little or no changes.
GOOD FOR HIM!

LMAO.

This quote would be more fitting of what happened in this country from 2001 until late 2005.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:22 PM on 03/25/2009

This quote is fitting in light of ACORN and all the money in 2008's election. That's why we are in a several trillion dollar debt and rising...and more money is going to this mob by the minute thanks to big O's budget/bailout/stimulus bunk. Money is the root problem, and no citizen's voice is heard unless there is the rustling of $$ behind it. Did you ever bother to wonder how these politicians go in with nothing and come out millionaires? It isn't the big salaries they get in their govt job, it's graft, pure and simple, and if your message is backed by a big enough wad you are their best friend. The entire scam going on now is to seperate you from your money at every turn. GET A CLUE! The Robberbarons are running the show, and it isn't big business or wall street, its DC. They are stealing your rights, stealing your money, and you are kissing their hand as they do it!
