The Best City Council Meeting Ever (VIDEO)

TruTV has a show called "Disorder in the Court"--basically the legal community's version of "Best Week Ever." They aired this amazing interaction at a city council meeting in Carson, CA and have been kind enough to share it with the world.

Mayor Jim Dear, who was the target of a recall campaign, was presiding over the meeting in 2007 when a local activist got up to speak about her efforts to remove him from office. He was rude to her, and when she left the podium she oddly smacked the public works commission chairwoman on the back of the head with some papers she was carrying.

The chairwoman proceeded to grab her head, scream, and fall to the floor. The mayor called for the activist's arrest and yelled for a doctor.

The activist was charged with assault and Mayor Jim Dear was recently re-elected.

Ha, that's nothing. Although there is no video, back in the '80s the mayor of Oswego, N.Y. took umbrage at a remark by one of his alderman that he construed as an insult to his wife. Mayor rises, charges the offending alderman, and launches a haymaker. Unfortunately another alderman stepped between them, caught the punch square on the jaw, and went down like a ton of bricks. Now THAT'S a city council meeting.

This thing happened ages ago. Still funny, though.

I had a similar incident. I bumped into a woman in the grocery store. I sort of gently tapped her shoulder but she instinctively grabbed her eye and started screaming. I said, "I'm sorry" several times until she finally seemed to realize that I was sincere and then she said it was okay and walked away.

I guess she just likes to play the victim.
