LOS ANGELES — The widow of producer Aaron Spelling is placing "The Manor" in the exclusive Holmby Hills neighborhood on the market for a jaw-dropping $150 million, making it by far the most expensive home for sale in the U.S.

The French chateau-style mansion has 56,500 square feet of space on more than 4.7 acres and is the largest home in Los Angeles County. Among the neighbors are the Los Angeles Country Club and, not too far away, the Playboy Mansion.

Candy Spelling's late husband produced hit shows such as "Charlie's Angels," "Dynasty" and "Beverly Hills, 90210." He died in 2006.

"Everything there is glamorous, and is luxurious and it's really great scale," said Sally Forster Jones, an agent with Coldwell Banker Previews International in Los Angeles, which is co-listing the property. "There really is nothing to compare it to."

Spelling told The Associated Press that she let her dog Madison, a soft-coated Wheaten Terrier, help pick out the best real estate agent for the task. She had her security bring the dog into the room every time she met one of the candidate agents and watched how the dog reacted. If Madison didn't like them, Spelling crossed them off the list.

Prospective buyers won't have to worry about passing such scrutiny, Spelling jokes.

"Not at all," she says.

The mansion, built in 1991, is gated and features a winding driveway that leads up to the three-story house, which includes ceilings that reach up to 30 feet high, Jones said.

While some published reports put the tally of rooms in the mansion at well past 100, Jones couldn't provide an exact count.

Spelling says she doesn't know either.

"You're really asking the wrong person," Spelling jokes. "There's a lot. (The house) has evolved and I actually haven't gone around and counted."

The Spellings found no shortage of uses for the many rooms in the mansion, however.

There's a bowling alley, a wine storage and tasting room, gift-wrapping room, a humidity-controlled silver storage room, China room, library, gym and media room, among many others.

The screening room is one of Spelling's favorites.

"I had some really wonderful times entertaining in that room," she said. "We showed movies and I still do."

The room features a movie projection system that automatically comes up from the floor at the same time that shades extend over the windows. It's an idea that came to Candy Spelling in a dream as she sought to avoid having a projection screen open all the time.

"I wanted Aaron to have the best projection room anyone had ever seen, and the biggest, so I came with this solution, not realizing that we had to excavate a lot of dirt to get down that low, to have a special room that housed the screen that was totally dust free," said Spelling, 63.

The Spellings also finished the 17,000-square-foot attic that includes a barber shop-beauty salon.

The home also has five fireplaces, four wet bars, and a wing for service staff with seven bedrooms.

Lavish features also can be found outside the house, including a tennis court, fountains, a waterfall, a pool and spa, a reflection pool and a pool house with a kitchen, and 16 car ports.

The estate also boasts 18th century-style gardens with a citrus orchard and a rooftop rose garden.

Prospective buyers won't have to worry much about parking when they host big parties. The property includes a winding motor court with space for more than 100 cars.

Spelling plans to trade her mansion lifestyle for a luxurious, two-story condo atop a residential tower in Los Angeles that she bought last year for $47 million.

"I have a lot of wonderful, wonderful, wonderful feelings about this house and special things that I went through in building it, with a love that you can't even imagine," she gushed. "Yet I feel like I'm moving on to a new chapter in my life."

And to have this mansion took only one simple thing - throwing her daughter under the $$$ bus when Candy's husband died. What a nice mom!

I wish it could be turned into a state of the art rehabilitation center for homeless people.

That one person/family could have that much wealth is just plain obscene.

They forgot to mention Candy's (and formerly Tori's) in-house plastic surgery suite. It's just for the simpler procedures.

The photo only shows the exterior. Inside, Candy decorated as if she were still a member of the world's oldest profession when everyone knows that she hasn't worked in years.

You forgot to add "Meeeeeeeeeeeeooooooowwwwwww".

Seriously though, the house is really just a nice starter.

It has less than 1.5 acres of living space - and that is spread out over three levels. It looks bigger because it is long and skinny.

The lot is only 4 acres so you would have to buy several of the neighbor's homes, at a bare minimum, just so you could have some elbow room.

You would also have to buy the Country Club so the golfers could not complain about the tunes. The last thing you need is some dude in plaid pants and strange shoes banging on your door complaining that he could not complete his chip shot ( whatever that is ) because the entire landscape was vibrating like a perpetual earthquake.

Then the house might be acceptable.

Did you watch 20/20 on ABC on Fri. She reminds me of Priscilla Presley with so much & they look so lonley. She said she calls Tori & she doesnt answer the phone. She was & probably is a control freak.
She was controlled by him so now she has to turn the tables.
She not even helping the Grandchildren. I wonder what the son is doing?
Hollywood what a waste I grew up watching Dynasty, 901210 & I think he even did Melrose Place.

Most widows feel lonely after losing their spouse. It has nothing to do with control. He left her the house, not her. Tori was ticked about that but she should have had her own money being the star in his series, 90210. He left his estate to his wife, whom he loved, as most spouses do.

I hope Tori, at the time of her mother's demise, that she sues the estate for her share because you just know even from the grave Candy will try and control it. But, I'm sure Tori is not living hand to mouth. What the average person considers destitute she considers not getting her weekly pedi and mani done as sacraficing. So, instead of Tori having access to all the cash now, she is regulated to a trust fund that still provides a multi-millionaire lifestyle. Oh, the sacrafice for poor Tori.

Watch, Trump, will have his PR folks put out the word that he is interested even though the only way he could afford it is in his wildest dreams. Lot's of hype with him and less to do with actual wealth, but it's worked.

The things is Candy was the "other" woman and broke up Spelling's first marriage, so it would stand to reason that even if she had a child, her mindset was and is, "what's mind is mine and what's yours is mine". Also, anyone think of the fee the realtor will make or the realty agency? The norm is 6%, do the math. Close to $9 Million profit for the agency and the broker. And, I'm sure the realtor has been in contact with Dubai folks for this property because they are one the few that can afford or maybe Oprah.

The 6% norm you speak of is long gone with the crash of the housing market. It's closer to 5%, and with the Realtors living hand to mouth, everything is negotiable these days.

I sold a house in '08 and every time my Realtor would come to me with a price change, I'd ask him to do the same. It was on the market for 9 months and he took two .5% commission reductions during that time.

You would need that many rooms to avoid running into their homely daughter, Tori. I mean, Man! If she was following me around through the house I would want some refuge, too.

Judging from the beauty shop, bowling alley, tasting room, gift-wrapping room, China room, library, gym and media room and other nonsensical rooms, this is not so much a house as a misplaced shopping mall with adjacent hotel.

People are entitled to buy whatever they want with their own money. You're just jealous. Get over it. Their lifestyle does not affect you one bit.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:40 PM on 03/29/2009

Of course it affects us. They are not paying enough taxes for the sake of the common good. It is greedy and selfish to have a house this obscenely large when there are people truly suffering everywhere.

Why does any ONE family need so much house? That house is the size of a hospital. They could have bought an enormous and magnificent spread for $15M and still lived like royalty. Imagine if they'd spent the rest helping others who are less fortunate. Imagine how many decent homes that money could have built for the homeless. How many hungry children could that much money have fed? How much AIDS or cancer research could've been done with it? That $150M was just what his house was worth. He certainly had millions more than that to spoil himself with.

What a sad and pitiful legacy. Personally, I think he should have focused less on conspicuous consumption and more on helping his fellow man. Spelling left us with 90210 and Dynasty, when he could've left the world a better place by feeding hungry children or paying for their college educations. There was so much more he could have done with that money besides building himself a monument to his own self-importance.

He worked and earned his money honestly, and he should be able to spend it the way he sees fit, no matter what someone else thinks. You don't live like that, but that doesn't mean that others should not.

I don't have a lavish lifestyle but I do not think anyone should. If you can afford to life in luxury, good for you. I wish I had the money to have the material things I wanted. It's not that way but with all they buy and those who work for them, they provide money to the economy and jobs for others. Kudo's for making it, I say.

Great they should do what they want, but what they want is shameful rediculous and gross. What a waste.

They can do what they want and I can have an opinion of it. They have my sympathy if they need foolish oppulaance to feel adequate. Yes think of the good that could be done.

Look at the aerial view of that house. If that doesn't look like something out of Dynasty I don't know what does. Aaron wanted to live like the characters he created.

Candy Spelling was on 20/20 Friday & they showed the House(Mansion). It is the house on Dynasty!!
She has a book out & people will buy it & she will just get richer. What does she need the money for?
Hopefully she will donate the proceeds.
Yeah Right!

Oh please! Is anyone telling you to give away your paycheck? No! So get off your poor horse and stop downing people for their own success. Nobody is stopping you from writing a book. Get off the computer, pick a subject, and start writing. Then shop your book to a publisher and see what happens. People do it every day and make money from it.

Stop hating on people who have achieved something in their life. That's the words of a lazy, hateful, jealous person.

Aaron must've been a homebody to have built such entertainment in a mansion (a bowling alley?) and the tax write off he probably received on his mortgage and property tax was huge I'll bet. They built it for around $43 million so she's making a huge profit if she finds a buyer in this market.

I saw Candy on 20/20. I believe the one thing she doesn't understand about her daughter is listening. Tori said she always had a strange relationship with her mother but loved her nanny. This is what happens when wealth affords you the opportunity for someone else to raise your kids. Parental bonding is established during childhood. I heard some of Candy's friends saying she was always doing things for the kids. That may have been but it sounds like the nanny was the present parent. That's a huge difference.

I'm not saying Torie is entitled to her father's wealth but how do you raise a child in a opulent lifestyle then throw her to the wolves to fend for herself? Tori should've learned the value of money as a teenager. Plus, she was a huge daddy's girl.

Candy & Tori better reevaluate their relationship because tomorrow isn't promised to either of them. Just look at Natasha Richardson. Do you continue this family feud and cry at the casket or try to make amends while you still have time? Death doesn't choose between rich & poor.

look at Warren Buffet he said he not leaving his Children anything. I think just to one of his Grandchildren. So maybe Candy S. will leave it to hers(grandchildren).
Your right at death its to late. I hope God Helps them while there is still time.
