"While we'd love to take credit for all the branding initiatives our clients take on," writes Ken Runkel, executive director of Landor Associates, the branding firm hired by Sci Fi. "We just can't.
"Yes, we worked with the SciFi Channel, and it hired us to consult on the project. However, Syfy was a name generated internally and pre-tested at the channel before our involvement," he wrote.

Does anyone actually watch the SyFy channel anyway? I don't have cable anymore but when I did, as much as I love science fiction, I could never watch this channel for more than a few minutes. They come close to having as much time on commercials as on content and they also edit the content in all sorts of disgusting ways to make it fit their commercial infested channel. I can't imagine any true Sci Fi nerd watching beloved movies or series in this way. Once I taped a Twilight Zone marathon but even just having to fast forward through the commercials every few minutes was too annoying. With DVD's (many available for free from the library), YouTube, and other sources I don't see the point in SyFy.
the SciFi channel has had a bunch of hits: Stargate, Battle Star, Sanctuary, and some other stuff I don't watch like the ghost stuff. they are actually a significant created of good new SciFi.

first, start with shortening Science Fiction to Sci Fi ... ok i can live with that ...
but now this ? syfy? it completely destroys the meaning of the term 'science fiction'
and to top it of, a ridiculously ugly logo design.

Meh. I only ever watched GALACTICA on it, and now that's over, so the channel might as well be invisible to me.
I had a friend who had syphilis. We called him siffy too.
Maybe they're just tired of Harlan Ellison calling them " skiffy ".
