North Carolina was among the most politically interesting states last cycle, and that won't change this coming one. Republicans will be hard-pressed to hold on to this seat.

Cooper will probably be seated in the US Senate before Al Franken will be.

Get these gangsters out of the Senate--they're not true representatives of the people!

Wonder when will places like NC, SC, the Dakota's etc become enlightened? I am tired of them holding this country back.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! I am probably the most Liberal/Progressive Person you ever meet. I live in NC and their is a growing Progressive Base in NC! Don't criticize so quickly. The STATE DID VOTE FOR OBAMA. NC IS A BLUE STATE! We are in the process of kicking BURR out and Conressman Walter Jones! We need just need more help as far a funding.

Well, that would be terrific IF whoever the Dems run isn't a DINO! The last thing we need is another conservative Democrat in the Senate!

Kos' appraisal is a bit shaky.

Things are currently afoot in NC (budget & tax issues) that could well lead to a backlash against Democrats by the time the next election comes around.

This is not a chicken that should be counted for the Dems anytime soon.

We need to find a true Progressive to run for the seat.
But the Rethugs think that by beating up Obama on his budget will help lead them to victory next year.

Good luck with that. . .
North Carolina may have voted for Obama (well mostly by through those 30 and younger), but North Carolina, by far has not (and is still not) been a very progressive state. I should know this since I have been born and raised in NC. If you want someone progressive, you will probably have to look to the North East, Hawaii, or certain parts of California for someone progressive with a chance of winning the electorate. The most you are going to get out of NC is a blue dog democrat. As of now, Kay Hagan (unfortunately) is showing herself to be one and even Edwards (despite his populist rhetoric during the primaries) acted pretty much like a centrist (especially through the senate defense committee) while he was a senator.

The best you can hope for out of NC is more Blue Dog Dems, which are only marginally better than Republicans.

This guy will go but there is a big problem. Kay Hagen was elected as an NC DEMOCRAT. She is one of the blue dogs that is voting against President Obama's budget. She has to go. It's like having two republicans in the senate. I hated Eiizabeth Dole's ad calling Hagen a "Godless American"... lying dog would have been accurate though.

I voted for Kay Hagan too before I knew she was a two faced liar. She rode in on President Obama's coat tails grinning from ear to ear and now she thinks speaking out against him will help her in North Carolina but she's wrong. I have a long memory and can't wait to support a candidate against her. He hosted a rally at UNC Charlotte the day after toot died and was very complimentary toward Hagan. She did vote for the stimulus and can't be worse than Liddy Dole was, but we'll see how far she takes this conservadem nonsense. This is not the same as the Bluedog Democrats, I can respect that. I dont' know what this new group is about yet.

Anyone paying attention to Hagan's positions before the election would clearly have deduced she was going to be Blue Dog. I certainly could see it, but was left with no choice but to vote for her.

Demoracts only need to get 60 seats no matter how it is done - it has to happen so we cannot be held hostage by the theocracy and KKK lovers that destroyed America.

It's really not that I think that the Dems are all that great. It's just that the GOP has gone completely off the deep end in recent years.

While there are many senatorial seats that are ripe for the picking, the economic downturn may hurt our chances to claim them. That said, I'd pitch in a bit of green for any worthy Dem candidate from my paltry UE check in a heartbeat. I am also willing to do telephoning, post card writing and any other political activity to help my Party. One thing that is abundantly clear, the GOP is hopelessly out of touch and has no message to offer either their own base or the rest of the Nation. I do believe in the multi-party system, but the Parties actually have to have genuine principles upon which to base their existence.
