Call it service journalism. The updated membership list for the influential conservative Democratic group, the Blue Dog Coalition, is available below.

Progressive bloggers, who pound the group mercilessly, have been searching for an updated list of members online. By popular demand, then, we asked Blue Dog spokesperson Kristen Hawn to forward the list to the Huffington Post.

It includes 51 members in total.

Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.) is co-chair for administration, Baron Hill (D-Ind.) is co-chair for policy, and Charlie Melancon (D-La.) is co-chair for communications. Sophomore Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) rounds out the leadership list, serving as Blue Dog Whip.

The Blue Dog Coalition was founded in 1995, following the GOP sweep of Congress, with the intention of claiming the center for the Democratic Party. Its membership is largely made up of Democrats elected in districts that voted for Bush in 2004.

Democrats currently hold a 75-seat advantage over Republicans in the House -- 254 to 178. But 218 votes are needed to pass legislation, meaning that if the GOP stays united, Democrats can only lose 36 members on a given vote. Three seats are vacant, with a tightly contested race in upstate New York to take place Tuesday in a district that trends heavily Republican. The seat's former occupant, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), was a Blue Dog. Scott Murphy, the Democrat seeking to replace her, has said he will become a Blue Dog too.

Here's the full updated membership:

As a member of Moveon.org, I am going to promote a Moveon.org email program.
We need to email these blue dawgs each day.
This is NOT the change we voted for.
Kay Hagan's DC office told me yesterday that she is in support of the new green energy and green jobs portion of the Presidents proposed budget.
This need to be put forth in public conversation so the feet of Mrs. Hagan can be held close to the fire. Also all of the Blue dawgs will be having public appearances in the next two weeks in the areas of the states or Congressional districts they represent. We need a show of people at all these events. If you call your elected official and ask their position on future legislation they will generally tell you the truth. This is where we need to be activists. Call their offices and just ask. Not only can you plan political action better you can save some outrage for other positons and some wasted time forming an action group over a position that the rep may agree with you on.
Call, email take action, that is the only way we will get the CHANGE WE VOTED FOR!

Like maybe the Red Cats? or the Red Fish?
Just wondering.

Schuler is really 80% Republican. No idea why he would even register as a Democrat, much less run as one. He is from such a RED part of the state in the mountains so not much hope for that one. McIntyre is from a very split district with no middle ground. Very poor district generally with minorities likely to vote Democrat and white rural farming population that usually votes Republican. Don't see either of these changing, except Schuler could have a short tenure if a strong Republican challenges him.

It is time also to end the Coleman/Franken count and recount , litigate and relitigate parade....Franken won.......he deserves to assume his seat. Gore certainly was ousted hastily, Democrats need to speak up collectively.

If we challenge them with progressive Dems, the GOP will win those seats. Most represent fairly conservative districts that would go back to the GOP.

I just wish people wouldn't make themselves out to be something they are not.

Who doesn't believe most of these people won their seats on Obama's coat tails. Voters put them into office believing it would help give our president the backing to do the things we voted for him for, then they turn around and flip us the bird. It is especially disheartening when you see how the repugs fall over themselves with solidarity on even the most foolish issues. Where is the solidarity of the Democratic party?

Next time much more grilling will be going on and my votes won't be based on party affiliation but on their view and records. I would take Olympia Snowe (who I actually respect even if I don't always agree with) over many of these turncoats any day.

Pitiful.

No, I don't. Except maybe for Claire McCaskill. I'm from NC and I can tell you for SURE that Hagan got in by being firmly latched to Obama's coattails. That and she was running against an old trout who was our Senator--- last name rhymes with 'hole.'

These "Blue Dogs" (& other Dems) are having a meeting with 44 tonight. This is a critical point in the new administration. They need to be reminded of how they reached these positions. This is a bad time for self-interest. Remind them that it'll be a WORSE time for it come election time. Copy & paste your (ahem) "opinion" to every single one of them. Feel free to use this:
"44 GETS HIS BUDGET OR I VOTE YOU OUT!!"

You think maybe some people in these peoples districts may have voted for them because of their possitions, not Obama's?

I think maybe that the majority rules (this IS a democracy) & most polls point toward US (the democracy) favoring our Presidents' budget. They ARE supposed to represent US, right? Again, this is a crucial point in the new administration. Did YOU vote for a power bloc (in his own party) 4 the Pres?

If that is the case, and the "dogs" are representing the interests of the voters who supported said positions, and they refuse to help their President, then I look forward to them explaining that at a press conference.

Thanks for posting the list of Senators' e-mail addresses--it reminded me to e-mail Sen. Nelson once again to urge that he support the president's agenda rather than follow the "blue dog" herd and ruin it all.

This is a time for real courage---but our representatives have traded theirs for campaign contributions or the fear of losing their seats.

Imagine a Senator or a Representative who does the right thing without considering how it will affect his or her career---are there any left? This is chance of a lifetime. Where are your backbones? Vote for change and hold your head high if you lose the election---you will have won the war! We won't forget it!
