I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Bill O'Reilly wants to see President Obama succeed, he says, but Rush Limbaugh is as adamant as ever that he hopes Obama will fail in the White House. During his Monday radio show, he told listeners that Obama's failure would mean the country would be "saved."

"Based on what we've seen with General Motors and the banks, if he fails, America is saved," Limbaugh said. "Barack Obama's policies and their failure is the only hope we've got to maintain the America of our founding."

LISTEN:

O'Reilly has a different outlook. Asked if he want Obama to fail: "No. We want him to succeed. We want to persuade him that perhaps some of his policies are not going to help him succeed."

Meanwhile, the DNC rolled out its anti-Limbaugh billboard:

It was not simply political poetry when John Edwards stated during the primaries "there are two America's." Rush, the GOP, actual conservatives (as well as the neo and pseudo varieties), and Democrats from red states are all standing to defend the America that favors the rich. Of course, that's the rich who got their booty from influence peddling and cronyism, and not meritocracy. There are more people in the other America, the one where the middle class and the poor live, where people work hard and save 30 years to a 401K only to have it totally evaporate when a Madoff or Enron or MCI robber-baron steals their pensions to by the 10th house in Costa Rica. It is class warfare, and you must defend the side of America you occupy with vigor, because the rich guys are ruthless and play for keeps.

Why should we expect any thing else from a documented college dropout (Wikipedia) and hate monger.

Isn't there one more thing to add to that list? Something addictive maybe?

i actually like his show. it helps me look at various sides of an issue rather that myopically or thru a prism.

He appeals to a certain segment. You are in that segment, apparently, which says a lot.

Rush is the champion of gutter partisanship and insatiable greed. There is nothing he won't say if he thinks it will increase his ratings, earn him more money, and boost his party's chances in the next election.

Rush: Let the rich and powerful govern--and if you're not rich and powerful, it's your fault because you won't do the hard work.

If Limbaugh is put out of his misery, we're all saved. Never has there been more of a poster child for euth-anasia than Limbaugh.

Another article today reported that the GOP threatened to start WWIII (their words). If they want war, let's go to war.

Yes, the Senate repubs say they will block Franken from being seated even if his election is confirmed by the MN Supreme Court.

What happened to states' rights?

Just a reminder

When discussing a drug addict, it helps to use the appropriate terms.

With his "I hope Obama fails!" statement Rush got a huge rush, needle to vein. Then like all highs, it started to wear off, so now he's reduced to simply rephrasing. "If Obama's fails, America is saved." But he won't get as high on this one, as he's in maintenance mode now.

Unlike many here who yawn, or say please, no more Rush articles, I say keep the light on him. Be so relentless he is forever blinking in the glare. The more you expose him, the more desperate he will get, so yes--- do publish his every desperate attempt to get high.

One wonders what might have been if people could have exposed Joe McCarthy for what he was in the way today's technology allows. It might not have stopped him from being Joe McCarthy, in the same way nothing will stop Rush from being Rush. But at least it might keep a fringe lunatic out of the mainstream consideration.

I suppose there are parallels between Limbaugh and McCarthy as well. McCarthy was an alcoholic who habitually overstated his qualifications and record and then went on to make himself look patriotic by vilifying good people.

What is the point for HP to post Rush's comments? For us to vent or to make a point? What is the point? What is new with what Rush is saying? All it does is giving him more exposure and I am sure some people will start listen more of a crazy and dangerous messages.
Not wise.

Only in America could a demagogue like this rise to the top and reap huge financial rewards for promoting hatred and national failure. Is this a great country, or what?

You are exactly right...I say this all the time...Rush,Rush,Rush should thank his lucky stars he's an American. A citizen of any other country and he would be in a cell somewhere far away from the light of day.

I thought liberals were educated, open minded, and ready for new thinking. My experience with HP is name calling with no substance. I listen to Rush sometimes, I watch MSNBC sometimes, I watch Foxnews sometimes, I read various editorials on both sides of the arguments. One thing that I keep concluding to is there are no Democrats or Republicans just government, the vast majority of them are self seeking, Self Centered, and only worried about getting reelected. Most people agree that they tax to much and spend way to much and achieve very little. I call them Fedzilla and you can not give them enough money, if everyone in the US gave everything they had it would fall short of what they spend. Rush Limbaugh is being used as a diversion, like a magician that diverts attention here so you don't see what is really going on. I suggest you hear both sides and then form an opinion.

I'm fine with hearing both sides because it does help in guide one's thoughts, but Rush doesn't really count. Even you say he's a diversion so why should anyone listen to or care to listen to a diversion? As such, I don't think he counts as part of an intelligent dialogue in which matters of substance are concerned.

Much as I would like that too we need to do like Patton and read our enemy's books. The truth shall set us free (and it is under Obama) but ignorance of the enemy's hunger for power will reenslave us into Rethuglican Fascism.

Can we agree that he is threatening the safety of the President of the United States and should be investigated . . .

Maybe Rush is self-loathing enough and hungry enough for attention to want the publicity of an investigation, or at the very least to have a member of Congress or the White House itself accuse him of hate speech.

We all agree: the man is disgusting. He's a blowhard; he's arrogant; he's a bully and a redneck. Yet there are probably millions who listen and are influenced by him. If he goes away, someone else will fill that gap. There have always been people like him. Let's just hope that the majority of citizens will recognize Limbaugh's cheap hate talk for what it is and vote for Obama again in 2012. I think that's exactly what will happen.

"the America of our founding" didn't let women vote and kept black people as slaves.

This is what Limbo wants? I hope Limbo fails and Obama continues to succeed.

That is what the Republicans want. Notice that they tried to resist the Lilly Ledbetter bill. Repugs are loaded with male chauvinist types who would keep women down if they could. I've seen this type in action. I am an FAA certified aircraft mechanic as a woman. I used to work in an aircraft factory where the certified women mechanics were actually petitioned out of their jobs by jealous male employees who were not trained in aircraft maintenance, but hated us woman mechanics because we had the "gall" to receive training in a traditional male bastion, aviation. Petitioning out ANY group is a violation of open and closed shop laws, but since son of a bitch Bill Graves was the Governor of this state at the time, the aircraft manufacturer got away with it.
