Madonna

Madonna arrived in Malawi Sunday morning on her Gulfstream V in her bid to adopt a toddler girl named Mercy.

After arriving she toured an impoverished school but refused to talk to reporters. She was, in the words of the AP, "dressed casually" in a black velour tracksuit and white fedora. But that casual look costs about $2,800.

A look at the photos shows her dressed-down attire is a Chanel tracksuit, tone-on-tone labels blazing from her shoulder and the stripes down her leg. Huffington Post placed a call to the 57th Street store in New York Monday with a casual inquiry, and a helpful saleswoman priced a similar ensemble at $2,800.

A zip front jacket is $1,600 and the pants about $1,200. A cheaper alternative to the one Madonna wore in Malawi is the $1,200 pullover jacket. Currently the store is stocking the velour in gray. They also have the tracksuit in cashmere for several hundred dollars more. Chanel clothing is not available online.

Madonna appears to have recycled the white fedora from 2006.

journalists use non-stories to make it seem like there's something of significance to know just because it's madonna. i think she's doing a good thing out there -even if it's not the best way to go about it.

Well, most people in the US can't afford to casually buy a $2800 tracksuit and nobody says anything here. I'm pretty sure in an impoverished area the people have other things to worry about than scrutinizing Madonna's labels. Moving along...

Did you expect her to run to Sears to get something off the rack just for this visit? That would be even more wasteful, since she would never wear it again.

Stupid story. Knock this garbage off, HuPo.

oh please....what a cheap shot. Just because she is amongst poor people she has to "act poor"? It isn't like she was dressed "flashy". And considering her wealth a $2800 sweast suit probably is low budget for her.

What if Queen Elizabeth were visiting....what do you think she would have worn?

Madonna has done a lot of good for the people of Malawi. Leave her alone.

It's her business. Shall I repeat, it's her business.

Who cares how much her track suit costs? She, like all celebrities, lives in a world apart. Their idea of "practical" is actually practical to them.
Also the research (a placed phone call) for the price is pretty skimpy.
There are other things to focus on in life.

So what. If she was wearing a $20 Bebe tracksuit, she would be criticized for not dressing up. The issue is that she is helping a child get a better life.

Get what? She adopts orphan kids.

Previous one wasn't an orphan - in fact, they visited his father this time over.

I think the press is being quite unfair here. What was she supposed to arrive in...$162,000 Versace pantsuit?

No sweatsuit is worth that much money. Conspicuous Consumption by so-called celebs is out of control.

chances are she did not buy the sweatsuit. is she supposed to go to Target and buy something? Poor woman cant even wear clothes that she is comfortable in. Who really cares that it is Chanel?

This story makes me sad.

You forgot to tell us how much her moisturizer and shampoo cost.

This is really irrelevant.

Yes, Madonna is selfish. Most parents are 'selfish' - we don't adopt or give birth because we want to do something charitable for our children. We want to love unconditionally and have the joy of raising our own little money vacuums and stress generators.

The only charitable act I see here is her support/creation of the local school.

As someone said in an earlier post, this child is already in an orphanage, so her family is either unable or unwilling to raise her.

As long as the adoption is legal and doesn't circumvent any laws, how about we leave this family alone?

And in her defense, I'm sure she's given to charity millions of dollars and not just to Malawi.

Rock On Madonna!!!
