Madonna

Madonna arrived in Malawi Sunday morning on her Gulfstream V in her bid to adopt a toddler girl named Mercy.

After arriving she toured an impoverished school but refused to talk to reporters. She was, in the words of the AP, "dressed casually" in a black velour tracksuit and white fedora. But that casual look costs about $2,800.

A look at the photos shows her dressed-down attire is a Chanel tracksuit, tone-on-tone labels blazing from her shoulder and the stripes down her leg. Huffington Post placed a call to the 57th Street store in New York Monday with a casual inquiry, and a helpful saleswoman priced a similar ensemble at $2,800.

A zip front jacket is $1,600 and the pants about $1,200. A cheaper alternative to the one Madonna wore in Malawi is the $1,200 pullover jacket. Currently the store is stocking the velour in gray. They also have the tracksuit in cashmere for several hundred dollars more. Chanel clothing is not available online.

Madonna appears to have recycled the white fedora from 2006.

Madonna who?

Irony?

Maybe if you check out her documentary she released this past Friday, you may learn something. To have a story like this is a low blow to a woman who is doing her best to get the word out. Who knows, there is that saying about bad publicity...

Exactly. It really is a non story and a cheap shot.

Exactly. She is doing some great things in Malawi. Her documentary was tough to watch but excellent. He is a true leader, always has been one always will be one. And she is one smart cookie to boot.

David seems like he is thriving. Lourdes and Rocco seem like some of the brightest, happy-go lucky kids. They seem to adore their mother.

I don't care that she spent 2800 on an outfit, I care that she spent that on something so ugly. People shouldn't be allowed to wear velour in public unless you're royalty.

who care about her clothes - - my question is why don't she just open up a Madonna home in all countries and on all continents for poor abandoned children, hire nannies and get her praise and attention that way -

What do you expect her to shop at Wal-mart? Cut the gal some slack Huffington, she's doing something incredible for a people who so desperately need it.

Madonna doesn't care about impoverished, she just wants everyone to be like oh that Madonna is so nice because she adopts blah blah. Children would be lot better off if she donated some of that money she throws around on luxury and kabalah.

So cynical firelord5000! I assume you've spent so much time with Madonna off camera so you know exactly what her intentions are??

Her biological kids look like they've turned out pretty well! Anyone who accepts the responsibility for raising a child not their own should be commended and not criticized by the peanut gallery.

That $2800 probably could have fed everyone in that village for a month or more. She could do so much for needy children around the world but buying expensive clothes seems to be a priority.

I am sure it would feed the village for a lot longer than a month! She could probably feed and clothe the entire village for life for the sum of her annual clothing expenses.

Whatever she's spending on the adoption could also probably go to building a school or keeping her whole family for several years, thus keeping them together.

So what? She bought it with her earned money. Still much cheaper than Palin's clothes.

I have changed my mind, I was harshing on Madonna for this. Now I don't care. I wish she'd just go away for a while, that's all. I've got Madonna-fatigue.

Not true. I am being forced by the Evil Global Celebrity Media Empire to read these stories. They are forcing me to click on the stories, read them, become outraged, and reply with inane comments. I have no will of my own. I have become an internet zombie. I spend several hours a day reading stories that annoy me and then complaining endlessly, with the deluded conviction that I am reinforcing my own identity and sharing something meaningful with the world.

You would realize the same thing is happening to you if you thought about it.

Wow, nevermind the fact that she's wearing a $2800 outfit, the fact that a TRACK SUIT costs that much is the real laughable statement here!

Seems to me that those of you jumping to Madonna's defense by accusing other posters of being judgmental are being just as bad yourself. Did it ever occur to you that the reporter's aim in publishing this story is simply to call attention to the disparity of differences at play in this situation? Did you ever stop to think that yelling at other posters with variations of "what have you done, how many kids have you adopted, how much money do you give" have not one thing to do with the story at hand, and that many posters frustrated with this woman is the fact that they DO give as much as they can within their limited means--giving until hurts--when the money that this woman has donated to the Malawi's to date has been nothing but chump change to her?? Her current tour alone has grossed $250 million to date, she was ridiculously wealthy before...let's see her donate the entire proceeds from this tour to charity.

Thank you!

(But don't forget Madonna is well on her way to be canonized...she'll soon be St. Madonna of Malawi)...it won't even matter to the Pope that she isn't even Catholic anymore.

Madonna has given a ton to charity. She is the celebrity who gave the most amount to the Sept 11 fund and the Tsunami fund. She has also been a tireless campaigner for cancer research. And her AIDS activism is legendary. She was out in front on that one when it wasn't popular to do so. She took alot of heat for it but she didn't care because she knew it was the right thing to do. So, in essence, you have no idea the amount of money she has given in her lifetime. And it is her own, hard earned money so she can spend it has she sees fit.

So basically anyone who is rich doesn't care about others until they donate all of their money?

Yes, but she's still not much more than a shill for her failing record company and a failing designer clothing label: she's a human billboard saying "Buy this stuff! I, The Famous Pop Star Product love it, so you better buy it....now

Bono is just as bad: a pompous twit who thinks he can make the world admire him 'cuz he's a PHILANTHROPIST now! He's a rock and roll guy who writes sentimental, self-indulgent pop songs. Nothing wrong with that....but if these are the only "icons" we've got to admire and aspire to emulate these days, things are gettin" pretty bad...

Failing record company? Maverick is the most successful vanity label ever. Btw- she sold it back in 2004 after WBR tried to opt out of contracts with it's artists. Madonna blocked them and in return, they did zero promotion of her American Life CD and actively tried to make it a failure. They got busted last year leaking negative info on her when she left them for Live Nation.

You are just jaded. Her and Bono at least do something which is infinitely more than you will probably ever do. I would rather emulate them than most of the politicians, corporate fat cats, wall street holigans, Big 3 auto-idiots and the like.
