CNBC's Joe Kernen: I'm The Real "Morning Joe"

Arianna co-hosted CNBC's "Squawk Box" Tuesday morning, where co-host Joe Kernen declared that he — and not MSNBC's Joe Scarborough — is the real "Morning Joe."

Kernen teased that he was "the real Morning Joe" off-camera. Arianna then lobbied for the camera-shy "Squawk Box" host to follow-up on-camera, and though he demurred, the following silly exchange occurred, courtesy HuffPost's video editor Patrick Waldo and his Kyte phone:

"We want to start a campaign that this is the real Morning Joe," Arianna said, pointing to Kernen.

"Thank you!" he responded. "Thirteen years versus, what, two years? An upstart! I'm the real thing."

Scarborogh does his job well, though I personally have no interest in his ideas, intellect, or the guests--my God, Peggy Noonan, spit the words out and make eye contact. You are a nice lady, though.

But Kernan's mind is tucked away with his 1970's broker's rolodex together with the one or two original ideas he has had in his lifetime.

Still I watch Squawk because, when they are not cut off by Kernan just about the time they reach the punch line, some of the guests are well worth hearing.

I switch to Bloomberg frequently, especially when Kernan does his straight man routine with someone like Eric Cantor, pitching a gunny sack full of anti-Obama softballs.

Then if it's a Democrat, say an inner city Congressman, the entire economic mess will be laid directly at their feet because of a push to expand housing to people who couldn't afford it.

It would seem that CNBC might be thinking of a new generation of investors, the kind of young adults who are so inspired by Obama, and that especially Mourning Joe, make an effort not to obfuscate economics because of a political bias--or barring that, just get out of the way for a new generation of financial reporters.

Kernen definitely leans right and occasionally makes uninformed observations, but he's not nearly as stupid and never as nasty as Joe Scarborough.
