U.S. News and World Report:

The White House has invited recently retired NFL Coach Tony Dungy, whose outspoken Christian faith fueled his 2007 support for a gay marriage ban and has won accolades from evangelical leaders, to join its Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, U.S. News has learned. The invitation is likely to draw praise from conservative evangelical groups and criticism from liberals and gay rights activists.

What part of Seperation of Church and State doesn't Obama get. I don't want to hear about his or any other persons "faith." Dungy is a good example of the bigotry of that faith. How about a Council of Facts and Science where people like my self who have no Faith in an imaginary being or people who believe in them can be given the money to do what these proselytizing groups do with out all the faih based rhetoric? I'd be happy to serve on his Faith Council as an Atheist along side some Buddhists, and some Agnostics. Throw in some Pagans, a few Witches and Warlocks and we could have a grand old time attacking each other to the point that we couldn't do anything good or bad which is the function this group should have. Tax money spent on assisting the poor, of whom there are way too many, should not be left up to a bunch of bigots and hypocrites who won't support rights for everyone but only those people they approve of! Mr. President, abolish this group now and keep your faith to yourself!

C'MON LIBS .... SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!

The government has no business whatsoever endorsing, taking counsel from, or making any special accomodations to ANY "religious" belief.

I'm Catholic and don't want the government stepping in to "fire" bishops other clergy they don't agree with, and don't want any government bureaucrat dictating what "dogma" I'm expected to believe in and practice.

It's like firing the GM CEO, and taking over and dictating what sort of greenie-weenie mobiles GM (Government Motors) will now be allowed to sell.

I am a strong supporter of President Obama; however, I agree that the White House Faith Council breaks the Separation of Church and State rule. I do wish he would abolish it.

But putting this one on the Liberals is wrong. If I'm not mistaken, I believe George W. Bush created the White House Faith Council.

Peace

I am also a supporter of the president but I, too, disagree completely with Obama on this "faith" business. It is kowtowing to Christian conservatives and allowing them to interfere in matters of state. We are a nation of MANY religious beliefs, but they should all be checked at the door when we discuss government. No Faith-based Initiatives (totally unConstitutional!), no Faith Council, no Tony Dungy in Washington. He is the opposite of inclusive.

What you do for, with, to, or among your god(s) is your business, but it is not my business.

Hey, CON! I'm sick to death of the use of the non-word "lib". Maybe you can't speak more than one syllable.

Let's start downsizing the government by getting rid of this worthless sideshow at the white house. Faith and community based, ha. If you got faith you should know that when you starve or freeze to death out in the open, that there will be a special place for you because you beleived.

Ok, I'll bite. I'm a liberal and I don't think the government has business in religion and the term "faith" doesn't mean faith of any kind. It means Christianity. That's an endorsement by the state which is un-Constitutinal. If Mr. Dungy and Mr. Obama, the private citizen, want to do something with "faith" based groups that's swell. Obama should check his religion when it comes to his elected responsibilities.

It's about community organizing. Churches tend to lead the way. In my community the churches teamed up with the fire department, red cross, police department , lions club, rotary club and the trustees of all the townships etc...in our county to identify needs in our county. 2 little retired church ladies (Republicans) knocked themselves out going to every church, business and civic organization and compiled a list of what services each organization offered and names and phone numbers of persons to contact. They shared the list. The result was that when needs were identified the organizations knew who to turn to. For example, not all of those organizations had food pantries but if someone came to them they could refer to the list . Also, some of the churches were more able to help with things like buying medicines or helping someone pay their heat bill. Job counseling and money management were provided to some who chronically lived on the edge. The church ladies organized pot luck lunches a few times a year just so everyone could keep in touch and to update lists.
